Same here. Just a consistent drip, sitting on the fitting.
Maybe I tightened it too much the first time.

Same here, but anything could be a quality issue these days.
Even some reputable manufacturers supply junk, sometimes, these days.

There was talk about oil drain from the head... I added a breather on the block:

and removed these breathers in the head:

So that now they can be used for oil drain back to the sump.... adds about 30% drain area..

We just went to this as a fix. Center pickup and reworked the exh. We have not tested it yet this year, but it holds 8qts as well so I am thinking it will help a good amount.

^Are you worried at all about downpipe heat on the plastic timing cover and belts, etc.?

I normally do, but with 8qts for autox duty I don't think oil temps are going to be an issue.

Not really, but I will monitor it and make a heat shield or something if needed. It was fine on the dyno, and that is with very low airflow in this location. There is about 3/4" gap to that part of the cover.

I coated the outside of my pan (and soon the interior of the downpipe) with the paint I used on my exh mani. For that very reason. Before that, I had heat wrap on the DP, but I've never really been a fan of that stuff.

Do either of you have data to show that actually did anything? Or it did just make you feel good that you did "something"?

An air gap and some air flow do a lot more than you probably think. And the DP/oil pan area have both.

i can basically touch the downpipe right after I park it, the guy who last worked on the car was pretty amazed how cool the DP was when he got under there. As far as actual, physical data of how much cooler than makes/impacts the oil, i do not have data. physically speaking, there is no way that does not transfer less heat to the oil pan. by how much, i do not know.
