Fancy New Wrap on Targa Newfoundland Evo IX

It's only 6 weeks before my Evo IX gets loaded on to a transporter for the long trip to Newfoundland for Targa. With time running short, we're closing out the last of the tweaks the car will need for the event. The most recent is a vinyl wrap and sponsor decals. I've also received my Targa number panels early, so I put those on the car as well for the full effect.

Very nice. Which APR rear wing is that?

It's the GTC200. I have the same one. It's great (although it can easily adjusted for too much rear downforce).

Cool. That looks pretty good right there.

Most wings I see have settings ranging from too much downforce to parachute. :lol:

But back on topic, this car looks great and very well sorted. Good luck!

Nice.

What's the tire plan for over there? Looks like Toyo.... but what exactly? Not sure of all the different surfaces you'll be encountering...

after messign with my 200 series wing for a while I doubt the effectiveness of it, no matter how much angle you give it.... it just seems it doesnt get enough clean air, but I could be wrong.

I'm running 275/40-17 RA-1s. Every overall winning car has run on RA-1s. It helps that our team (driven by Bill Arnold) counts for 3 of the 5, and we've been sponsored by Toyo every year, but they still really are the best. {thumbup}

The surface of the event is varied, and there is the constant threat of rain. You need something that will give you maximum grip on clean surfaces, as well as enough voids in the tread to grip through slurry coat and small gravel on the road surface. Wet weather traction is secondary but still important. The last consideration is wear and predictability over time. We run for ~2200 kilometers, and need something that won't go below the road legal limit of 2/32nds at any point during the run. The RA-1 fits the bill on all accounts.

Given the choice between RA-1s and the R888, I'd still probably choose the RA-1.

I've run the car both wingless and with the APR wing, and the APR part definitely stabilized the rear at some of the more high-speed corners. That said, this was far from scientific testing so take it with a grain of salt.

yeah, it does something.. thats for sure... it just wasnt enough for me in the high speed stuff... specially now with the new center diff.

Appreciate you sharing - the blog site was great as I was really interested in seeing the cage details.

Nice build up - best of luck in the Rally!
