RWD Evo conversion Q's?
I know there are a couple drift EVOs out there with RWD conversions (Formula D), and of course the ones that RMR did for 3F3F. What exactly does this consist of? I imagine there is a spool for the center diff (probably replaces the VCU/ACD mechanism in the TC), but what else is there? How do you plug the front axle outputs?
Can you just buy the parts or is it much more detailed?? EVOlutionary |
Not worth it. I talked to the driver of the tool racing rwd evo at a FD event here and all they do is break t-cases. It seems to be the weak link in the system. Just my two pennies.

The formula D car uses a Hollinger 6 speed sequential transmission.

The D1 car does, but last I saw the Formula D was still a transverse stock gearbox with RMR spool and axles plugs.

I will look for my pix...but more or less you nailed it. The ends of the axles have been seperated from the rest of the CV and there were plastic inserts into the diff. I am not sure what the TC mods were.

I cant find my "tech" pictures but this is the car I am referring to:

you don't need more steering angle to do drifting? Because i think that is why some drifters in japan /if i remember right/ they turned the engine 90 degrees to give the wheels more space to turn. We all know how horrible is the evo turning for drifting... :)
i even saw the pictures from those engine bays, in here the Evom too. http://bp1.blogger.com/_IofLYz5k30A/...600-h/evo1.jpg |

Just sold the silver EVO so no RWD in my future anymore. I was just thinking of a fun project it I didn't sell it!

If you want a drift car go buy a beat-to-hell 240Z and drop an SR20 in it. :)

Well, that would be the "normal" thing to do. But I already know the EVO inside and out from my thousands and thousands of hours of research (reading on EVOM!) and working on them. I don't really want to start over on a new platform and have to start from scratch as far as the learning curve goes. . .
Think I'll stick with the EVO VIII-IX platform for at least another few years . . . until I save some coin and make the move the the GT-R. . . :D |
