What's a solid clutch/fly combo for my autox evo?

Ok guys my evo IX is totally stock engine wise right now but I planned on upgrading the exhaust, fuel pump, and adding a MBC and having it tunned to 24 psi( the mbc and 24 psi is iffy? Don't know if I'm gonna do it or not?). Just took the car out on a 2 hr drive and the clutch was slipping so bad by the time I got back that the other mods are going on the back burner for now. I ran the 2nd half of last season in street mod street tire, even though I could have been running in STU, for the simple fact that I've been racing in SMS the previous 1 1/2 seasons in that class. So my evo only has 24k on it and the clutch is gone( I was pretty hard on it when lauching). I really don't ever plan on exceeding 350 hp so what is going to be my best bet on a clutch/fly combo. And buy upgrading the clutch and fly will it void out my power train warranty? Thanks guys

Most aftermarket parts will void a warranty, but I can't tell you that for sure.

We ran an ACT HD-SS with an ACT lightweight flywheel in our street mod Evo. It's great on the street and very durable even in our 500+ hp/tq Evo.

ACT HDSS with fidanza flywheel is what I've been rocking for the last 50k plus miles. It has been a very nice clutch so far. This would be more than enough for your goals.

I ran a exedy stage 1 and fidanza fly in my MSP that I used to autox in and liked that set up alot but far as the MSP to EVO, well thats like comparing a toothpick to a 2><4 lol! Thanks for the feed back guys

I'm also in the market. Can you guys give feedback on its streetability as well?

I don't believe aftermarket clutches/FW's are premitted in STU, but you should double check the rules.

A lot of the guys in my area are running exedy twins in their cars. That is what I have in my SM evo and I have no issues with slipping or getting locked out of gear.

+1 on the exedy twin.

Discospeed Jan 18, 2011 07:25 AM

^are your guys running a fidanza fly with the exedy twin? Well atleast I'm getting my choices narrowed down a bit lol. Thanks guys. I'll be running in SMS this season also.

Thoe99 Jan 18, 2011 07:57 AM

Which Exedy twin? the SD or the HD?

Discospeed Jan 18, 2011 08:02 AM

I was just checking out the exedy twin. It comes with a flywheel attached correct? And times 2 on what ^ he asked. Which twin are you guys running

milford Jan 18, 2011 08:30 AM

Go with the HD. It comes with its own flywheel. The twins do a great job of solving high rpm lock-out which the 6 pucks and other singles don't seem to do.

How's the HD when it comes to daily driving?

If you are going to stay in STU, it's the factory clutch for you...

If you want to run BSP or above (SM, XP, etc) then use what ever you want.

I have been running fidanza flywheel with my second ACT HD clutch for over 90k miles. While the clutch is perfect for my needs, I think the fidanza flywheel is a little to light for the 4G63. Next clutch job I plan to replace the flywheel with something else.

milford Jan 18, 2011 09:04 AM

the HD is great. the pedal feel is almost stock.

For that power level (im in the same boat this year in my Evo), I went with Comp stage 3 clutch and their light flywheel. Its perfect on the street, grippier than stock but works amazing for a DD.
