What brand/model/size tire do you have on your track Evo?
Im researching tires and I want to see what most people run or suggest. In regards to "track" evo im referring to time attack and autox. Thanks

this depends what kind of time attack your looking to do. every class has different rules for tire compound and size. global time attack has 3 different classes all with different tire rules. NASA depends what class you pick as well. for reference, we run a 245x35 18 A6 on our fastest TT car at the last event. but that was for TTA in an evo 9. since the class is going away, we will be going to a bigger tire more then likely.

TTU Class

A6 HoHo's, I don't run them personally but the majority of folks do.

honda-guy Nov 9, 2012 12:56 PM

A6 if you got the money. and NASA has hoosier contingency, if you have enough people in your class.

ITOzann Nov 9, 2012 02:04 PM

Hankook TD 285/30/18 & 295/30/18 :)

Hoosier's are awesome too, only tried the R6 tho. I was told the A6 last for a day or two.

PsychDr. HN$ Nov 9, 2012 02:16 PM

Looks like there is a consensus with that A6's.

How do you guys like the R888's?

GTisRule Nov 9, 2012 02:39 PM

You're asking for two totally different things. Autocross tires will die a painful overheated death for road course stuff. (Unless you're only taking a lap or two.)

The AX guys seem to love the Hoosier A6's, but I would suggest an R compound for road racing stuff.

I currently have 275/35 18 Continental GP's. I'm new to them (and slicks for that matter), and like them a lot better than my previous street tires. (D101 *specs)

Yes that is correct, but I am interested to know both.

He's running TT not W2W. If it was W2W I would agree with you.

R888's are turds IMO.

I run NT-01's but I just picked up a set of A6's for a time attack event next weekend.

honda-guy Nov 9, 2012 05:08 PM

for time attack (NASA), all the top guys are running A6. you're only out there for a few laps, you're not doing a 20 minutes session on A6. there are w2w racers that do use A6 but they're sponsored and get new sets every events.

NT01 are great tires for DE events. NT05 are also great street tires for DE events. not the best performance in their category but cheap and last long.

EVOizmm Nov 10, 2012 07:33 AM

A6's will net you the best single lap time. they are THE tire to have.

To go with the R6's, I've also heard many guys running Goodyear Eagle RS's and the BF goodridge R1S's which will get you the best combined lap times over 20+ minutes.

If you are running in any sort of competition, there are probably rules limiting you on size/type of tire.

I run TTS(TT2) with NASA, I run 245-35-18's as it allows me to run a bit more power than the other guys running even wider tires. You'll find out there is MUCH more to racing than racing.

I run 255/40 17 R888s for HPDE and open track.
They last long, stick well,OK in the rain, and they are reasonable in cost.

There are stickier for sure. You did not say if you were competing or not.

dougmo Nov 11, 2012 01:07 PM

I run hankook Z221 soft compound in 255/40-17 on my evo 2
these or A050 are my choice for semi - slick tyres
