Anyone else doesn't like having an "instructor" in the car with them?

On a more serious note, for the most part instructors are very helpful and appreciated, especially on a new track/the first couple sessions. However, I personally find having someone (anyone) in the passenger seat is distracting. Some clubs (Audi Club for example) requires everyone to have an instructor regardless of their experience level, that's fine with me, but I find my self running better and more consistent laps when solo. |
yeah. no thank you to the guy in the video.
this comes to mind when watching your video. |
My very first hpde was with the bmwcca and I drove with an instructor that was like that. I couldn't even stand to listen to the complete video, let alone imagine having them be in the passenger seat.

To be fair those are Imagine Lifestyle events where out of 100 people, maybe 1 of them can actually drive, seriously. I know, I've been an instructor for them. It made me scared to get on the main highway after seeing how people drive.
Nobody at those events gets a map or walk of the course so you have to inform them of where to go...most people have never driven through cones and all they see is a sea of cones with no idea of direction, way different then on a track. I've tried it both ways, telling them every input or just minimal info and the ones where I didn't say much they ended up puttering around.....the whole while I'm thinking 'you paid how much to drive around at parking lot speeds?' lol Real trackday instruction should be way different :) |
Don't become a rally driver, you have someone tell you what to do all day long. :)

I've been in a Ferrari F430. That is a LOT of car.
I really can't imagine someone with no track experience getting behind the wheel of one of those things. |

I prefer to drive solo.
All crashes was made with help of "instructor". |

I've never had an issue having someone (anyone) in the seat next to me being a distraction. For the first couple years when I started to DE I ALWAYS took an instructor with me, even if I was on the track 20 times before. If anything it was someone to bounce info off of or get input from... there is always much to learn in this sport.
Maybe I'm lucky, but aside from one guy who really didn't want to be in the car with me because I believe he was skurd (+700whp car w/newb driver on semi-rcomps would scare anyone), I've never had a bad instructor. |
I hate having anybody in the car with me. It's distracting and people are heavy. Even when my coach is in the car and giving me awesome information, its just a lot more distracting/stressful. I definitely prefer to be solo.
