This past weekend was my 2014 season racing season debut at Autobahn Country Club in Joliet, IL. I was racing with Midwestern Council of Sports Car Clubs in their ST1 wheel to wheel class. I'll keep this thread going as the season progresses and hopefully have some good pictures and video to share from each event.


To get things started, here is a quick picture from the weekend showing a few sponsors on the car for the 2014 season. Memorial Day weekend was the second race weekend of the season for Midwestern Council.
Before we get to that however, let me tell you how I started the long weekend off. I made a last minute decision to drive up late Thursday night to Gingerman Raceway in South Haven, MI to have a bit of fun and meet a few fellow Evo enthusiast at the Evopalooza event. A huge word of thanks to Chad who puts this event on every year! The event was perfectly organized and was a blast to participate in! There were some really talented drivers who showed up and that made for some great fun out on the track. Anyone who has never been to this event should really consider going next year. Thanks again Chad!!


Friday evening we drove directly from Gingerman to Blackhawk Farms where I was going to be running a half day of practice on Saturday and then racing on Sunday.


In the practice sessions Saturday afternoon I was troubled with a turbo coupler that kept working itself off of the J pipe no matter how tight we tightened the t-bolt clamp we had on it. This had also given me problems at the Evopalooza event on Friday as well. Prior to the last session of the day we made some changes to the fitup of the intercooler pipes and used a standard worm gear clamp in place of the fancy t-bolt clamp that seemed to not get any "bite" into the silicon coupler and allowed it to keep sliding off. What a relief it was when after the last practice session everything finally stayed put and did not slide off.


Sunday brought a new day and a new chance for things to finally go right for at least one day of the weekend. Did I mention I flat spotted a brand new set of tires at Gingerman? That's right, I learned the hard way that the Hankook C51's take more than a lap to warm up enough to handle a generous application of the brake pedal. That was the first time I had ever tried the Hankook brand tires. I figured it was at least worth trying them once since I have only used the Ho-Ho's and BFG over the past several years. I probably will not invest in another set of them again unless I decide to try the C71 compound instead.
With a brand new set of BFG R1's mounted to the car things felt SO much better for practice and qualifying Sunday morning. Out of 15 cars in the big production group I qualified 8th, middle of the pack.
All in all the race went well and I was able to improve my position to take 4th overall for the race and 1st in class.
One of the fun parts about running with Midwestern Council is the great variety of cars that are eligible to run in the big production classes. You will see what I mean in the pictures and video link posted below of the opening lap.

Congrats! Are you racing that event that MWSCC is doing at the Milwaukee Mile?

Yes, I plan to be there on Saturday for the wheel to wheel race day. Should be interesting running that track. Hopefully they have made improvements from what it was a number of years ago when I ran a few high speed autocross events there.

We have been running event there the past few years. I am not sure what it use to look like but i'd probably say NO there were no improvements. {thumbup}

Not many passing places on that track. Pretty much just divebomb everyone on the turn onto the back oval for the pass or its going to have to be on the oval. lol

I don't think you posted about your wheel's they look very functional, care to expand on the sizing/spacers/brand? and opinion of the way they ride?

Nothing fancy going on under the fenders. Rota Grids 18 x 9.5 used with 275 wide race rubber. I do use a 10mm spacer on the fronts.
It gets the job done!


Wish list...Enkei RPF1's in a 18 x 10.5. Anyone looking to get rid of a set???
