Ohlins DFV who's rebuilding them?

My DFV's are getting tired definitely ran them a season too long. I want to get them refreshed and re valved and am looking for current recommendations on who's able to do the right stuff in a timely manner. currently running with 10 / 12k springs.

I'd like to hear from folks who've actually sent theirs out recently.

Thanks
Shoe

Performance Shock in California is probably your best bet.

I was planning on contacting Ohlins USA in North Carolina for my rebuild when the time comes.

I had Ohlins USA revalve mine 2 seasons ago (winter 2015). I was pleased with the service but it did take a decent amount of time; I wanna say around 6 weeks IIRC.

Keep in mine that this time is their busy season as all the race teams send em out in the winter time to freshen things up for next season so they may take a little longer than say springtime.

I know performance Shock also rebuilds them and I believe Anze who is up in your neck of the woods can also get em done for you. I'd recommend you make some calls ask questions and send them to whoever you feel the most comfortable with. They should all be able to give you an idea as to how long it'll take, associated costs and what they do during a rebuild/ revalve to help make your decision based on your needs.

I don't have Ohlins, but PSI rebuilt/revalved my Motons pretty quickly (offseason) and made the process really painless.

this guy is semi local to me and has been really good for Ohlins services. VERY good pricing too compared to most.

i used PSI to rebuild my old ohlins RT about 4 years ago. was happy with the result and return time. it was during of season also. my current go to shop is Ohlins USA since they are my sponsor :D

About how much did it cost for a rebuild from PSI?

honda-guy Dec 1, 2016 09:40 AM

it was around $200-250 per corner depending how much parts needs to be replace, IIRC.

LetsGetThisDone Dec 1, 2016 09:42 AM

That was with revalving though, correct (assuming because you went to 12k/14k)? I imagine a straight rebuild would be cheaper.

honda-guy Dec 1, 2016 11:29 AM

the shocks were custom valving but the revalve was already done prior. that was just for the rebuild. it was also on the first gen RT shocks and harder to find parts for.

Gotcha.

When I spoke with the folks over at Ohlins USA they informed me the difference in price from a rebuild vs a revalve really wasnt that big in that they already have them apart anyway. Its my understanding is just a different stack of shims. Whether its a rebuild vs revalve they're opened up seals are inspected/ replaced fluid changed etc anyway.

As was already mentioned the biggest decider on price of a rebuild is the condition of the dampers in the first place. I was told to expect to pay around 2-250 per corner but thankfully mine were in great shape when I sent them in and looking at my invoice I paid $716.78 which included return shipping for a revalve on all 4. Pretty sweet deal I'd say.
