Photo dump from competition this weekend just been!

Hey All.

Id assume most of you guys are snowed under in the northern winter at the moment. so thought id give u all a bit of FOMO and do a bit of a photo dump from our latest competition round.

This was round 2 of our national championship at a track called Hampton Downs which is about 25minutes drive south of auckland, New Zealand.

We were there as a support category for the international Toyota Racing Series which has some of the best young international drivers competing. 2 or 3 years ago lance stroll won it. weve also had the likes of jehan deruvala, artem markelov and lando norris compete.

Its been so hot down here the track begun to break up on the saturday afternoon so they moved our first race to sunday morning cramming our schedule with 3 races in 1 day which is never easy.

race 1 we had brake issues and brakes boiled after 3 laps which had us circulating near the back just trying to get points.

Race 2 we missed due to working on the brake boiling issue. missed the dummy grid by about 5 minutes which sucked :(

Race 3 we went out and with the brakes sorted cleaned up the race with a 5 second win.

Race 1 is a fastest off the front, Race 2 and 3 are handicap reverse grid start races
and there is 2 classes racing together. GT1 and GT2, Split by time, GT2 has a fastest time which u cannot break out of or u end up in the unlimited GT1 class.

You can find race footage here: (sorry its split across 2 live streams)

https://livestream.com/Volttv/events...deos/169367914

Race 1 is at 12min 30 seconds. (it starts at like 8min but a car broke down on the warm up lap so they sent us for another warm up)

https://livestream.com/Volttv/events...deos/169371652

Race 2 is at 50.00min

Race 3 is at 7hr 9min

Hope u enjoy!!

How does Evo compare to Porsche, seems like 997 RSR?
Any GT3 997 cup cars?

What are basic stats of the Evo:
Power, weight, tire size?

Is the racing equalized by power to weight ratio?

Does the Evo walk away on straights from competition?
How does Evo corner speed compare to the likes of Porsche?

Porsche is golden measure stick, since similar cars embrace world wide.

Thank you

I believe the porsche is a 991. Its basically a modified gt3 rsr built by mantley racing in germany.

The cars are equalised by being split into time brackets 5 seconds apart. And race 2 and 3 are reverse grid start races.

There is a couple 997 cup cars that normally race with us but missed this round. Probably about 2 seconds a lap faster overall than i am.

The evo is 2.3l stroked. 3582r turbo. E85 drysumped. Dogbox etc. Its about 1300kg. Run a 295 wide slick all round.

Race tune is 430kw with an overtake button set to 515kw.

With the overtake button on i can keep up with the porsche in a straight line but its got alot more corner speed. Its in the next class up however.

The evo always gains a few spots off the start and is faster than half the other cars in a straight line but theres some quick cars we race against!

Main weakness to work on with the evo is to try get the corner speed up

Thanks,

I’d love to see Evo even out corner speed to Porsche.

Hard to not love these cars. Even with the level of modification and $ put into the evo, probably still a fraction of what those Porsche cost. Cheers!

{thumbup} thanks for sharing

I'm not sure your full setup, but I'm assuming we can do work to up that front grip.

Yea rumour is that car cost him about $700,000nzd to buy.

So yea probably 6 to 7 times what ive spent in total including tyres n tuning etc! Couple more seconds a lap and we will be matching him haha

Cup cars New Are $200K cirka.

Used $65-125K

It’s easy to dump $50K into Evo,
Dry sumped built engine
Cooling upgrades
Properly reliable modern turbo system
Fuel surge / dry Cel solution

Developed suspension: higher end 2-3 way cool overs, now also subframes, arms, uprights, sways
Big brakes
Fire suppression
Datalogging

Caged chassis with aero
Sets of wheels

Carbon seats and sprucing interior with carbon panels and mirrors

Forgot differentials, like front Cusco or Wavetrac, rear built, ACD with maybe Motec controller.
Twin disc clutch & sequential Drenth

I think we’re in $80K to have spec comparable to 997 cup car.

Evo is only cheap-Er base, because everything needs changing to reach Cup Car level.
Similar to starting the Cup Car build from cheap 996.

Awesome vids. Love the pics. Needed the inspiration to keep me focused. Congrats on the race three win! What was the brake issue?

Haha thats not a cup car in the picture tho. Thats a 911 gt3R mantley racing special edition.

Its basically the latest spec 911 gt3/gte car on steroids modified in house by mantley racing.

The 997 cup cars are comparible in speed to us. Down here you can pick up a decent one with a good service history etc for 150k ish nz to 200k nz.

Thanks man! No worries about the inspiration haha.

We had numerous issues with the brakes.

Rear calipers were toast and ended up in the bin.
We had some long flexible lines in with plans to put brake bias valve in cabin but never did so we got some shorter lines made up.

Master cylinder was leaking and piston sliding on an angle so we replaced and re drilled fhe pedal.

Then we found the fluid to be getting too hot and rear brake temps were higher than front. Turns out with the flat bottom we installed recently the rear brakes werent getting enough airflow so we ducted the rear calipers and ditched the handbrake.

Now finally all is good! Was a mammoth effort to sort out haha
