Oil Pressure drop right hander question
So I know there are some topic out there about oil pressure drop on right handers. I noticed during autocross my pressure drops to around 40psi on right handers while using re-71's. So I guess my main question is, is this a problem/should I be concerned about it? 2nd, are there known things that can help with it that isn't a dry sump (like to baffled pans actually work/help and if so which one)?

There are a ton of threads on this, it's been well researched. Out of curiosity, how long are these right handers?

The baffled pans do help. They add about 1-1.5 seconds befor eyou see the pressure drop off. Racefab makes a pan, they're in New Zealand. and Chad McCurdy (find him on Facebook) makes a nice pan as well.

Any who, the right handers are pretty short. At most it would be 2-3 seconds depending on the course. On a turn around, it can take about a good 4 seconds. Even on slaloms I see the pressure going from 90/100 (ball park guess) down to 40's just from the quick left and right slalom transitions. In this video, look at the middle gauge and you can see the needle going up and down, especially on the slalom parts. 15 second mark on the right hand sweeper going across the runway also you can see it just drop and stay dropped for a good second before it picks back up. |

It's been a while since I ran an unbaffled pan, but that seem kinda quick to have pressure drop that low. I could be wrong, since it's been a few years... but I'm not sure that's normal....? If it is, then no wonder people are killing motors. eek. That's kinda scary.
**edit: with the baffled pan I was able to sustain 0.8-1.1G for about 9 seconds with a drop to about 90psi. Not sure if that's helpful. |
.8-1.1g is barely higher than stock.
We're talking in the 1.2+ range. This was a trace chad sent me. You can see it take longer to fall off, then it still has recovery spikes. Overall the engine spend A LOT less time at critically low pressures. White is his, yellow is stock pan.Attachment 322447 |

But how do I make 1.4-1.5g stay happy?! :crap:
I know TPA is hitting something over 2g at speed on the banked corner at GTAC last year. But pretty sure they solved that with a dry sump |
^I thought they were still using a wet sump, no? That being said they have popped a few motors soooooo...
