SCCA T2 Evo's Unite

Hey guys,

I am building up my evo to compete in the SCCA T1 class next season. I guess I just wanted start a thread to discuss how the Evo fares, discuss setups and possible link to video of events. Wtz says that the Evo doesn't stand much chance against the T1 staple Z06 vette, but I am hoping maybe somewhere along the line we can change that. Also, if there is a central area where all the Evo owners who plan to run can voice our opinions, maybe we can use this thread as ammunition when asking for additional mods to be permitted.

Anyways, anyone else who is in the Evo vs. Z06 war, please post you war stories here.

Good luck. I will certainly follow your progress. I was just reading the article in the latest sportscar magazine, on the FI cars in T1. It looks like your biggest issue is going to be tire size, and perhaps weight. I am not familiar with all the rules, so I am not sure what is allowed, although it looks like you are going to want a dynoflash.

I've got all the Evo pride in the world, but I'd have to say an Evo in T1 would be a rolling speedbump for the Z06 and the Vipper. But hey, since you're in Tampa, I'll show up at any of the Florida tracks and give you a hand if you get this going.

I got to agree, things look grim going against the Vette, but last season, I helped some of the guys running S2000's in T2 get allowances for wider tires and potentially a change in final drive ratios. It all started by creating a thread like this over at www.S2ki.com. I think the SCCA is pretty fair once you present them with logical arguments as to why adjustments should be made. So that's part of what I aim to do here.

Well, I know the rules of T1 are VERY strict in what you are allowed to do and what you aren't allowed to do. In terms of power additions, I plan to do the following:

Buschur SCCA legal 3" cat back with muffler delete.
Ralliart drop in filter.
Vishu Xflash with leaning out the mixture a bit and advancing the timing to get the most HP (hopefully with a dyno).

I know it's not much but I am hoping it will give me a little extra hp. I figure if between, the exhuast, filter and remap I will be able to unlock 20 - 30 more hp, I will be in a better position.

According to the rules, I see very little else I can do to add power.

Pray for rain at every event & if it does, run Hoosier dirt stockers. The Vipers dropped out last year because they were not competitive with the ZO6's, and couldn't get any help from the SCCA, so I don't know how a legal Evo can possibly match up. If you are doing it just for fun, enjoy, We will all be rooting for you (and praying for rain).

I don't see why the Evo couldn't be competitive if they modified the rules. But if your only allowed a few bolt-ons to compete with a 400hp 5.7L V8 with lots of space for wide tires, then how can you possibly compete.

Well in all honesty I am doing this for fun right now, but my main objective is just to run enough races to upgrade my license to a pro license. When I can do that, I will probrably take the car into the NASA's USTCC. I think the rules there are more flexible and the car will be more competitive there.

dapaspy,
Do you hold an SCCA driver's license?

I am hoping that maybe we can petition a few extra mods, but it wil more than likely be limited to suspension mods, and maybe an oil cooler, diff cooler and weight adjustment.

What suspension modifications are allowed in T1? Without an allowance for significantly stiffer springs than stock the Evo definitely won't stand a chance against the Z06.

That article also stated that the STi is capable of 400HP with just a reflash. Is this true? I thought their turbo wasn't capable of that much more over stock.

Sorry for going slighty OT.

I think they were actually saying that this is the potential of a stock engined, stock turbo, STI, with only the allowed modifications. Whether that could be achieved on just a CPU flash was undetermined.

The same applies to the Evo. Can a dynoflash (or equivelent) + cat-back exhaust, run with the Z06? :crap:

mifesto Jul 22, 2004 06:15 AM

those z06's are a killer because of their straight line power and decent handling... now an evo will have to have some major power mods to keep up with the vette.... i think its unfair they lay the same rule down on a v8 on a i4... oh well

CincyEvo Jul 22, 2004 07:17 AM

I think shocks and maybe sway bars & end links are it for T1 suspension mods.
