The New Years Resolution Thread

I posted this on another forum, but every year I try and do something health related. I just turned 30 so I can't live off of beer and taco bell anymore. I want to get back in shape and get back to lifting weights again. Since I'm going race a lot in 2012, it's easier to cut weight from myself than it is to take it out of my DD car.

Goals:
Lose 45lbs (255lbs to 210lbs) I've done this before no problem. Bulk in the winter cut in the spring. I'll be doing a 5x5 weight lifting routine with cardio on off days and the majority of my diet coming from lean proteins and veggies for carbs.

Bench: 250lbs
Deadlift: 400lbs
Overhead Press: 175lbs
Squat: 350lbs

I also will try and make more NTEC meets in 2012

Anyone else have a resolution for the last year of everyone's life before the world ends. LOL!!!

***** it, if it is the end of the world, I am going to enjoy food, not work out!

I am not sure, I have been thinking of things to do but none of them sound interesting enough to follow through with yet. Most of the stuff I need, I have no control over.

Good Luck, i did this last year starting Feb. 257lb to 205lb and here is how I did it.

First get cheated on so you are very very angry and pissed off thus use that energy towards workouts (rofl).

Second, heavy protein diet along with veggies.

Here is what I literally ate for 3 months:
Breakfast = nutrigrain honey oat bar with a protein shake (1 package has 2 of them, i got em from Sams for hte bars and GNC for protein shake)

Lunch = 600 calorie protein bar, about 30 minutes before workout along with popping L-Carnitine (you can get it from any pharmacy section but I got mine from GNC, this helps you burn extra fat while workout but make sure you sweat. If you are the type that doesnt easily sweat, wear thick clothing during
workout. You can also add a salad (with NO dressing, none of that non-fat bull**** either), i will suggest baby spinach with lemon juice, tomatoes and onions (onions are optional but not the tomatoes or the lemon juice) about 1-2 hours before dinner.

Dinner: Always veggies with steak or chicken breast. No BBQ this and that sauce. Get a non-sticky skillet or a grill and cook them on there. I will suggest you to go get PAM non-stick spray as they have 0 calories and 0 fat so the steak or chicken breast doesnt stick on it.

That was my diet... And here is the work out plan.

20 minutes of cardio EVERYDAY before weight lifting. You can jog for it but after 5 minutes or so, (time depends but generally) jogging or running turns into stamina instead of "fat burning". Do the bicycle with a hill program for extra fat burning. If you tell me the machine brand that you do this on, i can also tell you what difficulty you can do it on. Walking and doing the bicycle will get you the most fat burning.

You seem to have a very similar weight lifting routine like I did, low weights high reps. 10 reps X 5 times on each muscle you work on. After you get into some what of a place that you are "happy" with (unless you are going for omg i must have 150 packs on my stomach) switch that into:

X amount of weight 12 reps
X + 5 amount of weight 10 reps
X + 10 amount of weight 8 reps
X + 15 amount of weight 6 reps
X + 20 amount of weight 4 reps
X + 30 amount of weight 2 reps (why 30 not 25? your last rep will allow you to start lifting heavier, easier for next time)

Keep in mind that X needs to start very low and slowly work your way up and it doesnt have to be +5 all the time, you can do 2.5lb at a time which to start off I will suggest you to do that. This routine will get you huge but once you stop, you will start loosing it like I did lol. This summer I was pretty damn big but not anymore lol.

edit: I just forgot something that I was gonna add.... fml.

Thinking about getting into mma. Have a plan for building a foundation over the next 1.5 yrs. At that point will have more time to get back into racing and join a mma gym.

I was 206 at the end of last summer because my friends and I were constantly eating very late and eating crap food. Im 6'1 so I didnt really look big. I was going on a cruise in March, so from December to March I dropped 30lbs. Cut out soda completely: oatmeal, yogurt and eggs for breakfast, lunch was a simple grilled chicken sandwich with salad, and dinner was brown rice, salad and steak or grilled chicken.

Coupled that diet with getting back on my road bike, I rode every day 30-50 miles and I flew back down to my normal weight.

Because of school I slipped up a bit, couldnt ride my bike as often and Im back up to 190. My birthday is in a few days so once my birthday passes Im gonna get back on my bike and get back on my diet lol. So thats my New Years resolution, get back to 175.

OOH good call on tx2k12. My friends and I wanna go. None of us are anywhere near the monsters that go there, but it'd still be fun as hell.

Not sure you have to be so stingy on the fat. Ketogenic diets (atkins, south beach, etc) are pretty effective. I'm trying to cut to 135 lbs and I'm pretty liberal with fatty foods like cheese etc. It makes the diet more palatable and satiating. I wouldn't recommend it for maintenance, though.

Nah, you dont "have" to at all. Ketogenic diets works as well, I am the type of a person that if I decide on something that I want, I will take the punishment for it.

Mines to quit wasting money on stuff that catches my eye. I'm only spening money on important things like the Evo and guns this year!

Also I can get you some free week passes to LA Fitness if you want. There's one is Lewisville by ya or you can use the one in McKinney on the way home.

Out of all of the things in my life I have quit, dipping was the hardest. I did it for almost 15 years, can a day. I haven't touched it in almost 12 years now and the desire is still there. If/when I see or smell the Wintergreen, it makes me want to start again. I used to smoke for years as well and it was a piece of cake to quit compared to dipping. I can even have a casual cigarette with no desire to do another, even today.

What helped me was Wintergreen Lifesavers. I ate so many of those fakers I cannot even look at them anymore. I would basically dip them to help trick myself, it didn't work as well as I thought but it did make me hate Wintergreen! Don't do the patches or gum and good luck!
