Boston area service recommendations?

Hi, guys.

I've got a 2003 Evo with some mild mods and I'm just moving to Boston next week. Can anyone recommend any "mod friendly" dealer service centers in the Boston area?

Thanks!

OK. This is the first time I've ever done this...but I'm forced to BUMP my own post! Oh, the shame.

Anyway, can someone please help me with this? I absolutely need to find a dealer in the Boston area that won't give me warranty headaches because of a downpipe and MBC. Any leads? I need routine service soon.

Also, are there any good tuning shops around here? Buschur is nearby, I think. Is there anywhere closer?

Well, it's two things. First, I just need to find a place for routine service (oil changes, t-case lube flushes, 30K mile service, etc.). I have a little rattling from the tranny that I'd like to get checked out (probably just a worn stock clutch). That sort of thing.

I've been going to a very mod-friendly dealer in Montreal for this type of routine maintenance and warranty work. Now that I'm in Boston, I need to find a new place. I prefer dealers since I have an extended warranty on the car and it's always easier to get big jobs done if you have a nice relationship with a dealer and they have a record of all your routine maintenance.

The second thing is I need a tuning shop to help me with a rattle from my Buschur exhaust, install an EBC (I'm not happy with my Hallman MBC), and maybe get the ECU reflashed to run on 93. I have a TurboTrix custom tune for 94...which I can't get around here

My dealer about 30 mins north of Boston hasn't given me any flak and I have cams, 3" TBE w/ no cat, boost controller, reflash, etc.

But then again, I have only gotten oil changes done there (only becaue they're free). In fact, one of the service managers was asking me what kind of exhaust I had on it, because he liked the sound, etc.

If you're trying to get warranty work like blown tranny/clutch etc, your mileage may vary.

My dealer is Commonwealth Motors in Lawrence, MA.

For a tuner shop I'd recommend you go to Dentsport Garage in Norwood, MA. www.dentsport.com

Tell em I sent you,

Anj

Edit: as far as reflashing your ECU goes, you'd have to go to either Turbotrix or Dynoflash. No one in the area does stock ECU reflashing.

Hey guys,

Dentsport is awesome.

I "think" KTR in Worcester does ecutek, but it's fairly spendy. Like $650 for the ecutek and $250/hr dyno tuning... I ended up going to Pruven in CT to get a custom flash by Al. Many people are happy with TT as well.

I don't go to the dealer for anything if I can help it, but I've seen some modded cars at Boch in Norwood when I was buying oil filters so I "think" they're ok with light mods? Sorry no definitive answer.

Good luck,

good wrenches in MA.

Dent sport garage in Norwood Ma. -Great guys, super knowledgable about all things 4g63 and they primarily build race cars. Alex owns an Evo2 and Q has an 8.

KTR in Ayer Ma. has a 4dub dyno and a great tuner, but as mentioned $$!! the Porshe/Noble dudes go there.

Boch no longer sells or services Mitsu. -They were cockroaches anyway, F em'!

Dent Sport Garage are top notch. Alex, Bill and the rest of the gang are laid-back friendly people who knows tons about the Evo and loves cars. My car is at their shop right now for a few installs, as a matter of fact.

Just STAY AWAY from Peter Fuller Mitsubishi. According to the service manager there, a catback exhaust creates "pressures" and will void your warranty.

IMO, if you mod the Evo, 90% of the time you're on your own.

Thanks for all the tips, guys! Sounds like the consensus is that Dentsport Garage is a good choice for tuning/custom work. I've seen their website before and, frankly, the site makes them look like a very amateurish operation. If it weren't for the positive feedback from you guys I would never have considered them. I'll have to check them out.

As for dealers, so far Commonwealth Motors (Lawrence, MA) seems to be the only one anyone has had positive experiences with. Again, thanks for the tip!

That's funny! ^^ After I got in a fight with the sales mgr. at Boch in 03', I bought my Evo from Peter Fuller. Their service rep. called me and asked me if I wanted to buy an AB exhaust from one of the techs. I bought it and they bolted it on. I thought they were pretty cool guys ( and one young lady that apparently runs service). Over the years and mods they have been reasonable to me.

That being said, I'm much happier never going to any mitsu service ever again. I have learned enough and found a good local shop.

naturally, if someone who WORKS WITH CARS for a living isn't web savvy, then they obviously don't do good work... maybe i'll stop eating at the pizzaria down the street, because one of the guys drives a rusty old escort

Thumbs up

For tuning/install shop, I will also add this shop to the list, Enhanced Street Performance at Sterling MA. For tuning, try FFT engineering. They are located at the same location. Ask for Carl @ ESP or Edwin @ FFT.

FYI, they have a brand new mustang awd dyno.
