Horrible drive home. need local help please

hey all, i was on my way home from work tonight around 10:15pm, and i had just gotten off one parkway onto another. Was in 4th gear, about to shift into 5th, when all of a sudden my engine bay exploded, i heard things coming off, popping, and then massive amounts of smoke started pouring from the hood.
Luckily i made it to the shoulder without harming any other motorists, to find a trail of fluid from my car and the engine bay still smoking. When the smoke stopped, i popped the hood to find coolants and oil everywhere. Had the car towed back home, and the tow guy seems to think that my engine had a crack in it and tonight's drive home did it in for.

I need help with a place to get the car looked at, evaluated, and eventually fixed. I had antifreeze as well as oil in the mixture under my car, so I'm definately in some deep **** right now as far as repairs.

Also, if anyone in the area has any engine parts, anything that you think i might need from my breif description please let me know. I want to save as much money as i can in repairing my car, however i'll do what it costs to make sure it doesn't happen again. Pretty bummed out , any support / information / parts would be great.

If you're in the area and think you can help p.m. me your # and i'll give you call.

Thanks.

-Jon

What psi were you running? who tuned you?
What rpm were shifting when it happened?

Did you pull the plugs and check for damage to them?

Were you paying attention to your temp gauge? If so, where was it at?

Hard to say from only your description. Sounds like a cracked block from a connecting rod or main bearing failure. Spun bearings usually have more to do with low oil pressure than with how your engine is tuned.

If the block is damaged, there's no way you can rebuild. You'll need a new (or used) engine.

yeah i'm sorry my description is so vague right now, it was late last night when it happened and totally caught me off guard.

As far as my temp gauge, i really wasnt paying attention because i wasnt driving the car any different then i normally would or do.

I'm going to have the car checked soon, right now probably just going to get it towed back home until i have some money to get this fixed. I'm assuming that something blew right through the motor and i'm going to need a new one.

So i'm just hoping that everything else is still in tact. Hopefully i'll just need a new block, even though that's not cheap, and not much more =(

I was just thinking it's possible that you missed your shift. Maybe you grabbed 3rd instead of 5th? That would generally cause the engine to over-rev massively, which would destroy your valvetrain. In most cases the engine will still run...kind of.

With spun bearings, the engine will not run at all. It would be seized solid. If you poke around the engine, look to see if there's a hole or crack in the block.

well the thing was i was about to shift but i still hadnt yet, i know that much. i was still in my gear when it happened, didnt downshift into third or anything. my car did seize up, im sure from the lack of oil as well. but i managed to steer it off the parkway. from what i could tell last night, there's a crack / hole in the back right now. she's coming home tonight so i'll try and take pictures.

If the bearings are spun, and my engine block did crack, what would i need to purchase to get my car up and running again? i've been talking to another member about purchasing their head, what other internals / externals might i be looking at?

No one on this board can tell you what is wrong, and what needs to be bought. Tow the car to the dealer or at the very least to a competent shop.

If the block is cracked, then the engine is not worth rebuilding. Just buy a complete used engine from someone and swap it in.

Ask them if they have one for an 8.
