Another Dealership Closed WTF

Well well, another moderately sized dealership (part of a much bigger chain I might add) recently seized doing business and I just received a letter stating that as of Friday December 12th, no sales, service or parts will operate at Executive Mitsubishi in Wallingford, CT.

This sucks big time for me since it was only 5 miles from home and was well known for excellent service and solid maintenance. Now the nearest dealership is 20+ miles away!

That makes three that have folded in this state alone. Were the franchises that unprofitable or is Mitsubishi in very serious trouble? I personally think that their current lineup is the best in a decade (probably since the 1993-1995 timeframe, 3000gt, eclipse, nice galant, etc).

The Lancer/Ralliart and Evo are great cars for the money, and the new galant is quite attractive (flame me if you want but probably better than the new accord and camry with their dumpy *** rears) and nearly as sexy as the altima and 6. What is going down???????????

I cant wait till the one by me folds,,,,,, I will have to go up and laugh in the sales managers face!!!!!!!!!!!! LOLOLOLOLOLOL

Then tell him Pay-Less might be hiring.

But really I think Mits is in some $$$$$$ troubles.

I mean who else gives you a car to drive for a year with no payments? Can you say REPO??????? That has gotta hurt.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, you can have the best engineered turd in the world, and as long as it looks like **** on the outside, no one is gonna buy it.

The new Mitsu styling trend sucks

The new Lancer and the current Eclipse (and current EVO of course) are about the only things they have on their lots that are the slightest bit visually appealling.

And if you don't think looks matter, then why aren't the people on the TV show "Friends" ugly? (okay, Schwimmer is maybe an exception).

Its because of those GM bastards trying to make mitsus look like their crap cars. Ever seen a grand am next to an evo?

Hate to say it, but Mitsubishi has done rather poor in terms of sales and profits for the past number of years. The fact that Daimler-Chrysler bought a controlling stake showed that.

And yes it's the franchise's fault. Mitsu corporate doesn't really have much to do with it as they don't have a huge hand in day-to-day business affairs at the franchises. It really takes a good location to make a Mitsu dealership work, so I've found. We've got one here that is closing as well, but they are damn near impossible to find and run very little advertising, while the other big Mitsu dealership runs TONS of ads and actually has a great website (http://www.carlisleauto.com). Too bad it's written in CF.

I was speaking with a General Manager type guy at my local dealership recently. He said that Mitsu was unhappy with the operating practices at a few dealerships on the East coast. And that as punishment, they were having their franchises revoked.

Perhaps the place near you is one of them?

Danbury Mitsu I think is folding too. If you drive by, it is now a Mazda dealership. They are saying that they are still Mitsu, but some inside sources tell me that they are possibly going to just sell mazda soon.
