I f'd up. Curbed my rim. Next step?
 

So as the title states, I f'd up this evening. I was watching a pedestrian, wasn't paying attention. Usually I'm so paranoid that I park way too far from the curb. But today, I lightly curbed my front right rim. This is extremely frustrating, because it is entirely my fault, I'm usually stupid carfeul, and its the easiest one to prevent from curbing as you have the best visibility. My frustration aside, hopefully a couple of :beer:s will level my head about that, I need to fix the rash.
So I've seen DIY of repairing curb rash, with sanding bondo and some paint. But I'll look more carefully later, but from what I saw initially, it's mainly paint chips. So I was wondering, should I try and fix it myself?

If I want to fix it myself, I need to get the exact BBS "Diamond Black" paint to prevent repainting the whole damn wheel. Does anyone know where I might find that? For reference, I have a Evo IX SE (I remembered the invoice saying diamond black).

If I want to turn to a professional, who is the best suited for this job? A bodyshop? A detail shop? Anyone have any favorites in the Philadelphia region or in the Bethlehem/Lehigh Valley that they can recommend?

Can anyone tell me about the paint on these wheels? Mitsuparts wouldn't carry it would they? My googling has yielded poor results on this one. I just sent an e-mail to BBS, but who knows what they will say.

don't beat urself up over it man it happens. I bought my car with slight curb rash on 2 of the bbs wheels. These will just be my beater until I can afford to buy a set of nice wheels :D

Everyone I call is giving me the run around for the paint code for these damn Diamond Black Wheels.

I can't believe no-one else has had this problem. Certainly someone curbed their SE rims and wanted them repaired. Please contact me if you know the paint code, or know a shop that does or did a good job matching the Diamond black finish.

just match the paint..any good paint shop should be able to do it. or go unique :)

The wheels are painted black & then a high flash silver (very fine metalic) is sprayed over it to give it that effect. Then the area would need to be cleared over. The silver paint needed is very expensive so it would be cheaper & easier to get it done professionaly. Do an internet search for wheel repair in your area. If you decide to do it yourself you can get the silver paint from Alsa. Their site is alsacorp,com I believe. It's called Ghost Chrome. Like I said this stuff needs to be dusted over a black base coat.

Just get some Volks.

That's a great link. I was told by BBS that it was a "two stage" paint, black base with silver applied on top. But that wasn't too much to go by. Your link to Ghost Chrome sounds very good. But as you said, $110 for a can of clear, Ghost Chrome, and black base is pretty steep. I wonder what a good repair shop will charge?

As for other people suggestions, I'd love to buy some new, better rims, but I don't have the cash for that, especially when I should probably save cash for my eventual clutch replacement.

I do wheel repair & usually charge $70 per wheel, but a retail place may cost more. It's not bad at all so maybe someone will hook you up.

sand the curb marks down and have the rims powder coated...thats what i did...girlfriend was driving the car and got some curb rash so i sanded the lip of the rim myself and had a local shop powder coat them gloss black for $50 a rim...
