I gurantee they had some ppl in that shop, that actualy built the car, a gang of sponcers, and clearly an autobody shop...

agreed. there's no way a few high school rejects can build a world class supercar from scratch unless there's something behind it.

Maybe it was a car that someone let them use for the project.. Maybe they just had to figure out how to modify the existing engine to work on biodiesel, and they installed a turbo as well... My curiosity has been peaked..

edit- from the looks of the car, it's likely it could do 0-60 in close to 4sec already...

 

that's philly representin. we actually were going to sponsor a fundraiser event for school for the philadelphia academies (the organization that this is under). didn't go as worked out so I never got to see the car but the details behind it is that it is built off of an accord chassis (with much fabrication of course) with the body panelling made by another company can't remember the name. it runs off of a 200 hp electric motor mounted in front and a 150 (maybe 160 can't remember) vw tdi engine that runs straight up from biodiesel. one kid in my fundraiser project group got to meet the kids.

so before you diss and doubt some "high school rejects" for doing something pretty incredible do a little search cause you'd be able to find all this elsewhere online as well.

Don't get all up-in-arms, you have to admit it's a little hard to believe from that article without any further info. The teacher even said it himself (albeit a little more tactfully) that they "were kicked out of school for disciplinary problems" and "none of them were the cream of the academic crop". So excuse me (and some others) for not blindly casting praise upon them without a little bit of skepticism. that second article really cleared up the foggy unmentioned things, thanks for posting that.

And (from what you said) I am right to believe that there was a lot of help involved, because there was. There was an existing diesel engine, existing framework and bodywork etc from a kit car from K-1 Engineering. The first posted article made it sound like they built the whole car from scratch. That's all I was getting at. The fact that they built it out of existing parts and avaliable consumer technology is more realistic and believable, because (as the article you posted) they didn't have much of a budget. The lack of funding makes it even more impressive.

I think it's an awesome project, and the fact that it turned these kids around become good students who could actively apply themselves is incredible.. We need more programs like this in high schools and colleges.

They simply mounted two motors on the car, which isn't easy, but it isnt as impressive as I thought. But according to the K-1 Engineering website, that hybrid is the fastest Attack out there. Now that is impressive.

And yes, only one person so far has mentioned anything about high school rejects. I simply stated the fact that there was a lot of information missing in that article and I wanted more.

I'd actually like to see how they are controlling the two motors and how the drivetrain works. Can you get me that info
