Pacific NW Racing
Hey All,
I just moved out to Seattle last week from Wisconsin. I am an avid autocrosser and am looking for some race time out here. I am aware of the NWR-Scca region. I Know that they have events in Bremerton and Packwood. How are these locations? I know that I would have to take the ferry to Bremerton and Packwood is about 2 hours away. I'm just wondering if these events are going to be worth the drive. Also, it's kind of unclear on the website, but is a membership REQUIRED to attend?
Are there any other local Car Clubs that hold autocross events? I have looked at the Proformance Racing School to do an HPDE event and it seems pretty sweet. Although does this mean that I'll have to do the clinic AND a lapping day in order to get some high speed runs in (seems like a lot of money)? or will I get a chance to really get on it in the clinic?
Finally, how competitive is the SCCA events out here? I come from the Milwaukee/Chicago region which is home to Multiple National Champions. So I am used to very competitive driving. Just curious how it is out here.
Sorry for the million questions! Figured I'd get it all out at once. Thanks in advance for the help! And I look forward to seeing some new Evo's out and about!
BTW: Here's a Picture of my Baby

Here is the AutoX run down:
Bremerton Sports Car Club (www.bscc.net) This club only runs at Bremerton. It is the least competitive, has the most people attending their events, but for me the most fun. I like it because they are more laid back and always try and give everybody an extra run. You HAVE to be a member to run an event. It is only $20 to join.
Western Washington Sports Car Club (www.wwscc.org): This club usually only runs at Bremerton, but they also have an occasional event at Shelton. The people that run the wwscc events are pretty much going to be the identical people that run the NWR events. This is more competitive than BSCC, but the best drivers usually only run PAX for this club. I believe you have to be a SCCA member, but they have weekend memberships too.
Northwest Region SCCA: This is the most competitive club. Their events are at Bremerton and Packwood. The best drivers here run in class most of the time. They group classes together, using PAX indexes such as STX, STU, STS2 are together, ASP, BSP, ESP are together. You have to be an SCCA member or purchase a weekend member to run.
Oregon SCCA: They do their events at PIR and Packwood. This club likes to group events into a Saturday/Sunday action packed weekend. You can go down Saturday for an event, spend the night at either Portland or Packwood and run the next day too. You have to be an SCCA member or purchase a weekend member to run.
Locations:
Bremerton: This is a good site. Most events are run here, so you will have to make the trip over for most autoXs. It is an airport runway and taxi way.
Shelton: Not many events here. I wouldn't think it was worth the drive from Seattle. It is an airport runway. It is closer to me and the events usually have less people so I like to go here when they have them.
Packwood: This is the best site for events. Staging is in this huge building so everything is undercover and it is pretty cool. The course is set up on this old lumber site, so you get a better variety of elements compared to the runway type courses. The scenery and drive up to Packwood is absolutely phenomenal. It is well worth the trip. I go there for two day events and just spend the night. I have been able to get hotel rooms for under 60-70 bucks a night. The SCCA tour has an event every year too.
PIR: Have not been to an autoX at PIR. I will be attending an event there at the end of March though.
SCCA competitiveness: Which class do you run (guessing BSP from your mods)? There are several national level people in the Northwest, both men and women. I run STU and street touring over here is pretty touch. Last year we had the 7th place STX winner and 2nd place STU winner at nationals. 2nd was the the fastest STU Evo. For the Packwood tour the people that ended up first and second at nationals in 2008 were also 1st and 2nd at the tour event.
There is a thread already started in the northwest region about track days.

I hated to see it go, but I couldn't bring both with me.I am planning on going to the first SCCA Bremerton event. Should be Fun!
Also, THANK YOU Spool4fun for all the information. You pretty much answered everything! I really appreciate it
Good write up Spool!
I wouldn't waste ur time taking the ferry, the boat ride is an hour long plus waiting in line. Just drive around, there is a toll of $4 on your return trip across the narrows bridge though
And watch ur speed on hy 16! Lots of cops on it.
Packwood is well worth the trip! Sunday events usually will have a practice day on Sat.
Here’s the local calendar -- http://www.wwscc.org/calendar.php
It's nice to see more Evo's coming out, I've been auto crossing mine since '03, it's been lonely out there -- I'm always surrounded by Subies here!
What class are you going to run?

Wow man, is does the sky have a filter set over it from photoshop or something? That's some insane true blue action... maybe I've lived in Seattle too long to know what the sky is suppposed to look like.

Unfortunately I don't have the time or commitment to make an STU prep evo, so in the mean time I am running in BSP. It sucks because I used to take 1st's and 2nd's in the Stock AS class for two years, but now I have to drive my *** off to get 3rd or 4th. Either way, I'm just happy to get the Evo out on some type of course. Although I really want to do a HPDE event...
