Son Moving To Ft. Lewis

My son is scheduled to move to Fort Lewis at the end of January. Any advice on which route to take from the midwest, he is kinda nervous about the snow and all. He will be coming from N. Carolina through Virginia, Indiana, Iowa, and then not sure which route to take. Any help would be great!!! Thanx

Well, if flying isn't an option I'd probably stay south if he's nervous about snow. Dip down RT 66, through Vegas, over to LA (actually Needles, CA )and up I-5 to the Fort, straight shot. Sure, it's more driving, but less snow. Have him drive over OK, not through, pick up RT 66 west of OKC because there's snow on them there wind swept plains My mother-in-law lives about 20 miles north of OKC and says the snow's coming fast and deep, and the wind's something awful.
Oh, and get a AAA membership if you don't already have one. Free maps and peace of mind.

Good luck and welcome to the neighborhood

I agree with engineerboy...plus if your son is 21 he could hit up Las Vegas if he has never been and have some fun there, and drive up California which is always somethin different since it changes so much. Does he also have a lancer or is it just you?

If u are going to take the California route I-5 up to WA state, be careful at Mt. Shasta.
When we went through the Mt Shasta pass, it was snowing like crazy and state patrol were checking car tires.

Other than that, I-5 along the west coast is relatively fine.
