f5m42 gearbox lsd

hi im trying to find out some info on the 95-99 mitsubishi eclipse/talon gearbox.

are the f5m42 box in the eclipse and the f5m42 box in the mitsubishi mirage the same gearbox? do they carry the same diff or do the diff carry the same splines on the axles?

i ask becuz ebay sells the obx lsd's for the 95 - 99 eclipse fwd for 355 and this would be an excellent upgrade for my 99 mirage.

thanks for any help u can provide

I believe they are, but the first and possibly second gears are slightly different I think, but same final drive. However, the 95-99 gearboxes have another drive shaft since the motor is switch 180 degrees, so you cannot use their transmission. It would most likely be possible to swap the entire gear assembly into your gearbox if you aren't to intimidated to do so. There's a few videos on f4m42 disassembly. Splines will match, just need to see if the gears will fit your box while excluding the extra drive shaft.
