Sorry, the link is in Russian but evom does not allow to download good quality pics since they are big. Just click on links in bolt blue and you will see some more pics. http://www.drive2.ru/cars/mitsubishi...rek/georg1970/

Hey guys. This is my first post here. I bought a 2002 Airtrek turbo as well. Same as the one on this thread. I have a question about parts for it. Can I buy evo 7 parts and use them for this car as in bolt straight up? So stuff like sensors, manifolds, front mount intercooler kits, brake kits, injectors, turbos etc?

Most of the Evo7 engine and turbo parts bolts right in, plug and play.Sensors are compatible, manifold and stuff can be replaced. With the turbo, replace using both the exhaust manifold and turbo outlet that comes with the evo7, incl the downpipe. Front brembo brakes needs the axle, arms, hub and spindle for direct fit while the rear needs a change of mounting point for one of the bolts. |

not too many parts from Evo 7 are bolt-on for Airtrek. Sensors are the same. Brakes can be installed but only with special hand made brackets, injectors can be installed but only with Evo's resister box ( stock injectors are high impedance whilst Evo ones are low impedance), intercooler kit can fit with some mods but only if you will change the turbo for TD05 from an Evo 4-9 together with outlet and exhaust manifold. If you will install TD05 you will probably need slim fans as there is not too much room between the actuator and stock radiator fans. The bottom line is that everything is possible - it is just a matter of money, time and good will, depending on what you want to get from the car. The safest limit for Airtrek is 350 HP at the crank- after that you will need to upgrade your auto transmission and engine... |
All I want to do for now is basically a FMIC,bigger downpipe, BOV, free flow exhaust, pod filter intake. SO a couple of questions again.
1) Can I use the intercooler kit for a evo? If so which evo? 2) Pod filter intake- recommended or just a HKS panel filter? 3) When I do the downpipe (3 inch), can I use the one from an EVo8? Regards Sankaran |

Regards Sankaran 2) I would recommend Apexi or K&N - they are the best. The rest wheither too expensive of less effective. 3) You can use any downpipe from any Evo 7-9 but the flanges positioned differently so some welding job will be required. If i'm not mistaking they are about 20 degrees misaligned ( one turned clockwise and the other counterclockwise) between downpipe and catalytic converter. Be careful with BOV - it is not a very good call since Airtrek is using MAF. We had a few cases when guys installed them first being after a coll sound but removed them once the engines shut themselves down because of BOV presence causing a near miss or minor incidents . |
So even if I run more boost with a boost tap I don't need to put in a BOV?

Hey guys. Ok I took note of your previous comments about how if I change the BOV the car may stall. I found a GoFastBits Fully adjustable Recirculating BOV so I can adjust how much recirculation and venting to atmosphere I want. What ration should I set it at? Also, I was told I may need to adjust the spring load to control when it opens. Any idea on that? I'm gonna do a 2.5 inch custom turbo-back exhaust and depending on what I can find, maybe a front mount as well. But thats as far as I want to go with it. Maybe a reflashed ECU at the end of next year but thats only a maybe.

Pretty cool project
