New guy, buying something soon
New guy, buying something soon
Hiya -
Colin here. I just sold my wife's Liberty and we're looking. We have it narrowed down to Subaru or Mitsu.
Our range is $17k or less, 40k miles or less.
Subies are rare in that range and they go fast. I understand there's a head gasket thing that may crop up, but that issue is becoming rare as they get away from a certain generation of gaskets.
Mitsus are more common with cool options, but have that CVT that I'm not to fond of, service-wise. Our dealer is pushing a 10/100 warranty as a reason to buy, and I think it's because of the tranny myth.
Otherwise I'm not able to find too many other things either group of owners complaining about.
I'll let you know how this all turns out. We have an appt to drive an Outlander SE (non-sport) tonight.

Hey Colin,
Thanks for stopping by.
Not sure which Subi you are looking at, but Outlander vs Outlander Sport are completely different vehicles.
Just a heads up.

Not only are the sheetmetal different, but their size (length), interior volume, and power are ALL different.

Yes, I am aware, reason for the "non-sport" in case anyone needed clarification on what I was looking at.
We drove a "sport" (non-not-sport) a few days ago and my wife wasn't to impressed. She's hard to read.
Tonight was the Outlander ES (non-sport). It had 21k on it and was very comfortable, but the engine noise was a little nuts when I had my foot in it. Driving through town was a strange experience as well, what with the revs going all over the place, but I knew to expect that. Still, it's strange.
Overall I liked the O (ns) more than the OS. More room, same sense of pickup, a little quieter, cool tailgate.
Tomorrow it's back to the Sport, a loaded blue with roof and sub...
