I'm trying to install the drivers side door handle on a 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander sport. Got the door panel off but am having a hard time removing the lock mechanism so that I can get the new door handle back into the door. There is a Torx screw at the end of the door that appears to hold part of the handle/lock assembly in place at the door edge. Does this need to be removed to install the new door handle?

I don't believe so..
Once you have your lock mechanism re-installed the door handle&cables goes back the way you removed them.

I managed to get the door panel off just fine. The problem lies in getting a new door handle onto the door itself and not in the door panel connections.
However, I found a video online of a Nissan truck that had a similar handle to my Mitsubishi.
After removing the T30 screw from the door edge the lock mechanism was free to move about and I managed to get the repaired handle back into the door.
However, because I had to use the original broken handle (repaired with gorilla glue and wire) it was a little bit over sized when I put it back in place.
The handle works for now but rubs and doesn't retract properly but this is just temporary. I'll have to buy a replacement and do it again to get it right.
Unfortunately, the after market part that I bought for the passenger side isn't the right one and that side will have to be done also.
Looks like I'm gonna be buying a pair and hope that the shape is right. After messing with it so much I think I can do the whole job in less than a hour.

ah.. I see.
You were referring to the exterior door handle(s).

Take some photos, so as to help any future members who may have the same issue.

Dudes! Two weeks ago I checked if my door was locked and the handle came right off! Just now! A seven year old little girl tried opening a different door, and didn't understand that it was locked, and ripped a second handle right off! Is this normal!?! SHE IS SEVEN YEARS OLD MITSUBISHI!
