EVO : End of Line, but What's this...

I was just reading this article about the last Evo announcement... Then in the last passage I see this >

And it begs the question—what will replace the compact super sedan? Likely, a super SUV. Mitsubishi executives have previously noted their intent to deliver the power and enjoyment of the Evo…just in a larger platform, which makes a hotter-than-hot Outlander Sport look even more plausible.

Mmmm....
There's hope for Mitsu yet.

I guess all that berating on lack of power in their SUV/CUVs, finally got their hear.
Now we'll just have to wait and see how they plan to pull it off.

Yes, I also read about an XR-PHEV (successor of ASX/RVR/OS) derivative as the new EVO. It looks legit according to this article and the embedded video (it took me a while to find it again):

“In the future, we would like to launch such a vehicle with Evo characteristics. In Japanese, when you pronounce ‘Oh’ [in Evo], it means ‘king’. So we would like to launch this type of car, featuring EV and PHEV technology, which is the ultimate of its kind. ‘EV’ for electric vehicle, ‘O’ for king – Evo.” -Tetsuro Aikawa http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/pa...nce-hybrid-suv

They seem to be going the BMW i8 route. Which, personally, I am super curious to see. Everyone seems to be giving Mitsu crap for "ditching the EVO" and playing it "safe with crossovers." Considering Mitsu is really heavy into electronics, and their Pikes Peak MiEV is an electric beast of a car... it leaves me to believe they're trying to refocus the company into one that can produce daily commuter cars that are more practical and get great gas mileage (or solely electric), and also really figure out a way to make electric performance cars (such as Tesla perhaps? maybe not that high end of course).

Regardless, I'm curious to see what they do :)

i can live without an Evo if they bring out an Eclipse AWD turbo. ;)

Mitsubishi could trump the "twins" - BRZ and FRS - autocrossers love them, but i think the majority who show interest in them would like more power ... and in my case, AWD, too.

let hope, I just pray it is not a watered down ralliart, and a true EVO XUV!

Funny thing..
I've completely forgotten that Mitsu was/is a electronics company. You just don't see much of Mitsubishi branded consumer gear like you use to, ie: Projection screen TVs, stereo receivers, etc etc.

So true.

I can't recall why Mitsu decided to kill off that particular flavor of Eclipse..
Did it have some kind of mechanical problem(s)?

They've got ALL the tech & needed parts + engineering experience, it's just the Will to package it now. Hopefully someone at the top back in corporate has green lit something worthy.

Maybe on the consumer end, yeah. Previous job all of our electronic equipment was Mitsubishi though. Majority of the machines that put the tax stamps on cigarettes here in the states are ran by Mitsu electronics, haha.

Is that right?...
Well, now we know where all their corporate profits are going.

I am all for new technologies...
However, personally I'll wait half a decade more before I trust it fully. I just DON'T feel safe > with the idea of those 1,223lb lithium packs exploding when it gets wet.
