im guessing (hoping) they will make them in Japan ....

I'm reserving my main opinion until Mitsu officially releases a statement on their own. But, IL has offered them tax breaks and such before to keep them there, perhaps they'll do so again? I do recall something about Mitsu saying they would phase out production in IL a few years back.

http://driving.ca/mitsubishi/outland...-north-america But they also are not building in Europe either. I would hate to hear Mits is pulling a Suzuki.

Then again, maybe we will just get the Asian cars here (like my Japan built RVR) and possibly the ASX with turbo diesel? :)

And it gets worse: http://asia.nikkei.com/Business/Comp...to-shift-gears Sounds like they are pulling the pin! Orphaned!!!! :(

So what does this all mean about our warranties? Will they still be honored?

CottageLifer Jul 25, 2015 01:19 PM

Who knows? At least the RVR/ASX are planned to be sold overseas so parts should be available. For Suzuki, who pulled out in 2014 read this: http://www.edmunds.com/car-buying/su...ankruptcy.html

I think it would be a darn shame if they orphaned their NA cars. And who knows - people still speak of the original Eclipse in reverent tones. I would expect the same for Lancers and the OS/RVR. But what do I know??

Well, that depends on if the dealerships are still around, right?
For example - are there any Hummer or Pontiac dealerships that can service/honor those vehicles' warranties??

Well, in the case of Suzuki, there are lots of Suzuki ATV and motorcycle places. Dunno if they can/will do auto work though.

Frankly, as long as Mits Japan pays the bill I will find someone better and cheaper than the dealer to do the work. The Edmunds link I posted about Suzuki has some interesting points - like resale. There seem to be lots of Suzukis around up here, still.

I shoulda mentioned that Pontiac is still GM. Ditto for Hummer. Strangely, they still command high prices.

absolutely true.
However try finding any place that would service them with New OEM factory parts if you needed 'warranty' work done... Well, that ain't going to happen.
They'll strip from the junk yards for your replacement parts. (Even IF you had bought extended warranties.)

You can get Hummers for $10k all day here in Texas, off of craigslist.

Well, Im reading this as they are shutting down a plant.. not shutting down US operations. All the cars/parts can be imported. But only time will tell. I thought OS sales were doing well. Last time I was at the dealer they couldn't keep them on the lot. Buy em up now.

My concern would also be for the warranty since I bought it from an actual Mitsubishi dealership.
I wonder if they would transfer it to another dealer in their network?

The dealerships are not shutting down.
