Air bag recall update

So a couple months ago I checked & nothing. Last Friday my mechanic gives me a call to let me know his system was just updated & I'm now, unfortunately, a part of the recall. Just got off the phone with the dealer who confirmed it as well. My car has always lived in the northwest region so Mitsubishi has apparently made it a broader recall. To check, call your dealer with the last 8 of the VIN. I was told it was only a $18 part, & should only take 2 hours, but the whole dash has to be removed & any aftermarket wiring could be an issue. My car is a 2005 GSR, if it makes any difference. Good luck ladies & gents.

well the good news is that I'm pretty sure we're all past any warranty at this point. Thx for the update.

I wasn't posting about warranty work. Just a heads up for those in the NW that the recall has broadened to include some of us.

Yeah I wonder if I can just get the part from them and have my shop do it. My car has a lot of gauge wiring in the dash that they would need to be careful with hmmmm

Yep, I know. My comment was inline with yours. If our cars were added to the recall back in 2007 or so it could have sucked to weigh getting this recall work done and risk getting popped for aftermarket stuffs on the car/getting blacklisted, or whatever. So now our cars are added it doesn't really matter if we have the dealer do the work as warranty periods are pretty much a thing of the past with our aged whips.

I received a letter from Mistu that my car has an airbag to recall. Work will be done at the dealership within a week.

Can you get a part number on this $18.00 part?

So the part number is 7030A696, & the price I was given today was $34.08. They told me it could take between 5-6 days to get it in. And since I've got aftermarket electronics he suggested letting them peak at the car before making the actual appointment so they could determine if it would take more time.

Looking at that diagram I definitely don't want them in there. With all the gauges and aftermarket head unit...yeah not happening. Gotta see if I can just get them to give me the part and call it good.
