Of course I'm also always keeping an eye on the light during WOT pulls too.
I've worked on this for my car and ithis low load knock will never be eliminated. It's like the ECU is looking for a "reference" or caused by EGR. It can be greatly reduced if you do what you did, plus making sure the 3 "boost enhancement advance /ret" tables are adjusted accordingly if you recaled your maps.

One thing I noticed that freaked me out is if you leave your ECU "unpowered" for a long time (6hr or more) there will be one cycle of random knock in the mid 30s. It must be a test or something it happens only once, but it does it every time you you power cycle the ECU.

That was the only thing I could think it was for too.

I get the knock at low acceleration too and in the same areas. At this point, I think it's transmission or clutch noise as I seem to almost always see it around the 1st to 2nd shift. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure the ECU thinks it's real knock and adjusts accordingly.
I've had the same problem for a while, but I've been able to tune almost all of the "random" knock out. I've been noticing that every part people put on and tune for, they tune for the boost section of the map only and forget about the rest. I've been noticing a rather large difference as I tune not only the boost section, but the vacuum section as well above the cruise range. My knock count is pretty much zilch and the power is much smoother as well.

i fixed the p0300 problem by using ScanTech to capture the freezed frame when the code triggered. It tells me the timing/load/rpm when it happened and I'll go from there (usually change the timing a little bit). It's time consuming due to p0300 may happen in multiple load/rpm range (but usually low RPM or low load). My 03 evo didn't have any more p0300 code for the last 10 months. I still have the 0008 map.

Agreed!

What are most of you using for the four "CEL light on knock" settings?

FWIW, I'm currently using 5 units; 10 units; 150%; 2,000 ms. Anyone have a better idea? Why?

40 because I am trying to sus out low load knock

if I was going to be worried about knock in the critical areas I would use

Well for what it is worth, despite never getting a P0300 the new 015 code in the car is working and seems, SEEMS, to feel smoother. Completely unscientific, but I always felt like the on/off/on throttle response was a bit bucky (yes adding a 'y' at the end of the word makes a new word haha) but now it is much more controllable. Now I just need to finish tuning in the direct boost control. Wish me luck.

sus out = check out

critical areas = where knock actually causes damage, ie high low

When i got my VIII in 05 i got the P0300 every day, i took it to mitsu and i think they did an ecu flash, but now that im in to the ecu tuning, im running 94170008 and it looks like they didnt do anything to it. They did replace the crank pos sensor after that and P0300 hasnt come back. I also took the drivetrain apart to replace the clutch so whatever was causing P0300 has just disappeared. I do get this weird hum humm hummm when im about 3-5" vacuum steady state crusing. I think it may be my DV chattering, or some weird intake harmonic causing some vibrations. Oh well, i just blip the throttle and goes away.

my friend has an IX and since switching to his cosi cams gets this code from time to time, is there any known fix for an evo IX for this code issue?

I'm also seeing high knock (15-36 counts) betwen 2400-3000 at light loads. I'm breaking-in a built 2.0 with race balance shaft eliminator and stiff motor mounts.

I'm almost convinced that it's phantom knock because knock sensor voltage is higher across all rev conditions. it now hovers around 1-2.5v when i hold the revs at 3k with no load.

I've been having knock issues with the old motor as well. Now I have a cosworth 2.0, new knock sensor, new valvetrain and very conservative fuel and timing. It only made the knock worse.

Smogrunner, have you tried listening to this knock w det cans? Do you think this is something that Albert at TT can help with? I've been thinking of going there because I'm all out of ideas.
