that sounds pretty good. its hard making the decision especially when i havent been in a Full car and of course the B. it sounds like the B is a nice upgrade. you'll have to definitely come back with some more info! around town driveablity, kill stories lol etc. congrats on the new power!

from what I understand the b is a 60lb/min wheel or so.. Basically its going to feel like the regular bbk full but keep pulling harder until redline.. bigger turbos tend to give you more kick for longer periods of time, which results in you becoming addicted to WOT. ;)

I am one of the lucky test cars for this BBK-B testing that CBRD has been doing recently.

Only change as far as power adding mods was upgrade from BBK Full to BBK B.

Rest of mods are in my sig, car is 06 MR with 41K.

I just picked up the car this evening and so far have been very impressed with the results. If you have been following the threads, my car was the one the posted the first results on (one with the cossie cams), before it ran out of fuel.

I will have to wait for Chad to post up the final dyno chart, but I think it was somewhere around 420whp at 26.5~ psi. In the initial testing it was pushing towards 440-450 at 29psi before running out of injector.
I had a BBK full prior and its previous best (chart is in the BBK dyno results thread) was right about 400whp, and that was a very cool day.

As far as difference from the BBK Full, it's hard to describe but I'll do my best. It is still very responsive (about 185-200 rpm slower spool on average Chad said from the testing on my car) and you can feel the difference, but you almost have to be looking for it. Also when you hit it, it feels like there is noticeably more pull behind it, so even though response isn't quite as quick (and by no means does it feel laggy or slugish) it feels like there is more behind it now, you can def feel the additional power.

Transient response is not quite as quick, the Full was amazing in its response with light and partial throttle manipulation and coming off and on boost, the B is still very good but you can notice a slight difference. Whereas the BBK Full didn't feel bigger than stock, this feels like you moved to a slightly larger turbo.

So I conclusion I am extremely happy with the upgrade, it was the little extra I wanted on top of the BBK Full and I think if that's how you feel as well, this upgrade is perfect. I feel that the small loss in spool and response is a worthwhile sacrifice for the added power this turbo provides. I loved my BBK Full, but I do like the feel of this better. I don't like lag, and responsiveness is right at the top of my priority list for a turbo, but the additional power and pull through redline this gives along with maintaining great spool and response make this a perfect choice for me. (FWIW I hit the rev limiter, 8400rpm or so, for the fist time today. Top of 3rd came faster than I was expecting haha)

Future plans are to go with a built 2.2 and more boost, and I think that paired with this setup would be an almost perfect street setup.

I'll drive it more over the next few days and try and post some follow-up. This is just my take from the 60 mile drive home...

Thank you to the hard work of everyone at CBRD and Blouch and congrats on producing another awesome product!

Thanks for the review sir, great info! I can't wait to be able to post a review my self! What were the final numbers with the 1000cc injectors?

How much air does the BBK-B compressor move compared to the FP Red's compressor, tscompusa? Are they fairly close?

tscompusa2 Jul 22, 2010 09:32 PM

more then the fp red. its inbetween the red and black from what ive heard.

RSMike Jul 22, 2010 09:55 PM

from what i've been reading, it spools faster than the red?

I was thinking the same thing.

Well if the compressor flow rates for both turbos(the Red and the BBK-B) are established...then the difference is quite easily quantifiable. I was hoping for some exact comparative data actually. Or is it still too early in the game?;)

pump gas 93oct wise the red wont come close to what this turbo can do. I have no idea about e85 or other race fuels. let Brian from GST motorsports test it then base your decision on his results.

dont forget the Red has the HTA designed compressor which allows higher efficiency at higher boost, but yeah it would be awesome for a comparison once the vendors get their hands on these :)

vmrevo9 Jul 23, 2010 12:02 AM

it would interesting to hear results from a 2.3l block and this turbo. in the far future i plan on stroking out the motor and building the head that should definitely help max out this turbo!

bwesley82 Jul 23, 2010 07:18 AM

^^
Yeah I think that is next for me, I am getting nervous pushing 450, especially if we turn the boost up a little, on the stock block. I think a stroked motor on this turbo running up around 30psi would be awesome.

I forgot to take a dyno sheet when I left, I'll post one when I get it or Chad may be able to post it, but it was around 420whp at about 26.5psi. He kept the boost conservative for some extended street testing, and that is pretty much the same boost I was running on the BBK Full before the change, so good boost level for comparison. In earlier testing it made 431, 362 at 28psi beforeit ran out of injector.

BBK Full = 50lb/min
BBK-B = 60lb/min
Red = 65lb/min

Corrected for you...and it's 68lb/min.
