I was on the phone yesterday with the STM sales desk and I said, "My car is 15 years old and I think I might need throttle seals." Reaction from STM, "You think?"

Got home from work and saw my stripped manifold stud and it’s stripped inside the cylinder head but it won’t stay tight and won’t get tight fml.. red loctite is not working. Any recommendations? Heli coil , time-sert, new head? Ugh i just tightened this as tight as I could get it and it looked like this after a 30 min ride home. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...a33d858f6.jpeg |

I would heli-coil first. That should hold fine, if it fails, you could always JB weld it in :fire:

Wrapped downpipe , engine cleanup and hardware cleanup like chasing threads and tapping etc while I’m waiting on my time-sert kit to get here. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...477075304.jpeg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...271e62c52.jpeg This is the hole that needs the repair. |
My fifteen year old Evo got its first boost leak test today. The result - one leak, #2 injector. Fifteen year old throttle seals, which I bought replacements for ahead of time, not leaking. Plastic BOV, not leaking.

Both Evos I have owned, same thing. No throttle leaks, no BOV leaks. Original seals at 180k and 30+psi. Every Evo I haven't owned, but boost tested (3), super huge leaks at the throttle. lol |
Time sert kit came in and the cars all fixed just gotta wait 24hrs to fully cure to test it out. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...2a6f56e85.jpeg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...1a5dfb7fc.jpeg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...ec134333f.jpeg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...f1bc9604d.jpeg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...af618396f.jpeg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...22b5a9479.jpeg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...adbe4b6a3.jpeg |
Got the turbo and other bits all installed and everything torqued down !! My repairs worked yay lol. added some gold foil, maybe it will help? Few more things still left to do https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...f4a549270.jpeg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...8c8fe0c4f.jpeg |
Nice job on the repair of that stripped stud hole. That is how I would have done it. Hopefully that nut stays tight for you as the thermal expansion coefficient for cast aluminum and steel are different. I think it should be fine.
