got kevin D baffled oil pan installed changed oil again because of that and dynotuned alittle earlier in the week

Installed Tanabe Medalion Touring CBE, HFC, and Megan downpipe.

Car positively purrs, is not obnoxious, and definitely is much improved in drivability/seat-o-the-pants-dyno performance.

Loving it!

^{thumbup} I'm buying the same Tanabe exhaust in about a month here, but keeping the stock cat and DP. Glad to hear its not obnoxiously loud. I want to keep mine pretty quiet too, just with a nicer exhaust note.

IAC valve replaced and had to reset the ecu twice to get the idle right. Hope it's good now...

I wanted the exact same thing. My black car was obnoxiously loud, so much so that I never would have replaced my exhaust on my white car if it were stock. However it was pieced together junk, so I had to replace it.

The stock DP has so many restrictions when looking at it, it is not even funny. I had the benefit of hearing two Evo IX's with Tanabe's, one with a downpipe and HFC, before making my decision.

I was worried about the loudness of the Megan DP, just based on the noise of my black car. (I started a 13-page thread on it!) However, once the exhaust was done on the white car, I was very, very pleased.

For the extra ~$320, I'd recommend the Ultimate Racing 3" cat and Megan DP to ANYONE, even those persons with a child seat. It is very quiet. No "mellowness" (drone, lol). Huge difference seat-of-the-pants, but granted, I was coming from a seriously restricted muffler-shop step-down special so I expected that.

After seeing how affordable the Megan DP is, I may just go ahead and get it. I really think I would leave the cat for now, at least until it needs to be replaced. The only thing that is stopping me is the fact I still have a regular and power train warranty, being that I bought the car new in late '07 and I know they will void it if they see a different DP on my car. How does the sound level compare between aftermarket DP, cat and CBE to stock DP, cat with CBE?

got some apr carbon fiber gt3 mirrors and finally got a new passenger hid housing (my old pass headlight was non hid housing) soon some nokya yellow fog lights

dleight Aug 24, 2011 03:23 AM

I have the Tenabe Medallion touring CBE. It is VERY quiet.
I put on the Cobb cat-less DP and Invidia test-pipe...still VERY quiet.
Only difference you notice is when you're getting on it, but still very mellow.
Cant be more than 5db over the stock system.

mpls:boost Aug 24, 2011 11:19 AM

put on some amber JDM side markers..

Racco Aug 24, 2011 01:07 PM

Mine's in the bodyshop, some idot hit me from the side. Good thing is I'm upgrading the rear bumper to an evo IX.

QFT. Though I'm careful about the term "mellow". 'Round these parts, mellow is another word for drone.

Can't directly compare my actual car because I haven't seen another one since doing my exhaust.

However!!!! I have heard a bone stock, vs. a stock DP, stock cat w/ Tanabe Medalion. The Tanabe is slightly louder.

ALSO! I have heard a bone stock vs. a Tanabe DP + UR HFC + Tanabe Medalion. Again, even with a DP, HFC, and CBE, it was only slightly louder.

I heard the stock DP & cat with Medalion vs. the DP+HFC+Medalion, and there was virtually no difference in the two.

I can also put to rest the thought that a downpipe makes an Evo anthing more than VERY slightly louder, as my old exhaust had a 3" downpipe with the flange cut off, welded to a small universal-fit cat, and it was 2x quieter than stock. Whisper quiet actually. So don't sweat the downpipe increasing your noise level.

Seriously. I'll get a sound clip of my car this weekend with a DB reading and you can get a better idea. Dude, I'm 37, and I bought my Tanabe and HFC from a retired guy running the same setup. It's quiet, I'm telling you, and to be honest, I'm sure it at the expense of some power compared to something like a Bushur, albeit a small amount, and I'm ok with that. I'm very happy with the power it makes for the noise it makes. (or doesn't make, in this case)

Nothing:(

EVOSE06 Aug 24, 2011 10:45 PM

Thanks FERNO and dleight for your guy's input on the Tanabe exhaust. For now I think I will just get the cat back system. I'm not worried about the sound difference with the DP, I just don't want to void my warranty. Once warranty is gone, I'll happily slap on the Megan DP. For now may as well keep the anal Cali Mitsubishi dealers happy and just change it after the cat. Would definitely be interested in hearing a sound clip when you have time to post one up.
