i have a question, if i want to stay 2l , with Cp pistons and Manley connecting rods, but stock crank and block etc. Also run around 29 spike and hold around 20+ at 6500 rpm red line. what do you think about the compression? Which would be a ideal for that? like 9:5?

i cant exceed 300 hp no matter what. 34 mm restrictor, but some how i would like to gain some TQ.

Thanks Rob

Exactly! The cost difference in parts is so small its dumb not to put better stuff in.

thats why they say, go big or go home

OK I understand that many pple start off wanting to build their engine for 450whp and then go up but my question was, is there any other reason why you really wouldn't recommend the H rods?

Hey I'm all for putting the best parts into the car you're modding but seeing as the car will be used more has a DD and spirited driving with some track time, why go above 450whp?

Why build your motor then? A stock one can handle 450whp with the right turbo and lower boost.

OK so I'm guess fp green with cams can get me to the 450whp without having to build the motor? Reason I was going to build the more was because I was looking to run fp red with cams (8k Rev limit) and wanted to make sure the engine wouldn't explode. Better safe than sorry right?

You can run a green on a stock motor just don't be stupid and push, take it easy and put a conservative tune on it.

If you are going to build the motor do it right or not at all.

As long as your confident in your tuner, i'd go 10.0:1 - 10.5:1, you'll gain more TQ and response :)

^You cannot spike 29psi on a 10.5 compression motor on pump gas...not a chance in hell.

Rob, I wouldn't go over 9.5 if you want to run 29psi spike.

To utilize a high compression motor you really need to run race fuel or E85. My tuner prefers running E98 even on those motors.

And that is why I wanted to build the engine so I could run the red without issues, the H rods are rated up to 600whp but every seems to think they're no good. When the time comes I'll see what the turn says and take it from there but thanks for the help

murlo26 Mar 25, 2011 09:48 AM

It's not that the H beams don't work or are bad...but honestly, you are talking what, a savings of 1-200 bucks...in the grand scheme of things that is small potatoes. The motor is apart already, you mind as well toss in a bit of extra safety margin in case you want to go bigger later.

i would say no. the fp green will spool quick and have a lot of early torque, which will kill the rods.

everyone always says, its not the hp that kills motors, its the torque

i dont know why you would go against what is already proven to be reliable

You're right on that, I don't see myself wanting more but that's what they all say huh lol, so just in case I rods with JE pistons it is!

There you go :)

It wasn't long ago I just wanted bolt ons and 300whp...now I'm double that power. It's a disease and it won't go away any time soon.
