then the largest Magnaflow oval I could fit in the rear. It was fairly quiet and sounded amazing, IMO. Sure there was turbulence that cost HP, but it was worth it, IMO. I've considered doing the same for the Evo, but just haven't gotten under there to measure clearances.

yea the 5x11x22 will juuuuuuuuust fit. i think the myth of losing hp has been debunked by RRE when they were pushing their exhaust, it's on their website. def with this will lose a couple hp, i dont really care about that. the biggest benefits of aftermarket exhausts is for weight, but i will take the quiet > the weight loss for me -- and i don't even live in CA, i just want peace and quiet when I cruise down a road. my car isn't a race car though, it's dual street and weekender.

Anyone know, theoretiaclly, how long could I store these?

kyoo Feb 14, 2019 12:39 PM

im storing until june lol going to put each in it's own plastic bag

kaj Feb 14, 2019 12:48 PM

I may need to store until next season LOL. Who knows how old they are at this time anyway, I guess.... I just realistically don't know when I'll be buying 18s.
Could be next month or next year. Bleh. For that price, I can't resist trying them, though.

Literally until the end of time as long as they don't get much colder than 30F and have at least a bit of humidity

Probably old inventory to begin with. I don't know that another season of storage would make much difference.

I always store my good autocross tires in the house over winter because I heard the same thing. Except last year, I left my nearly-spent RE-71R in the freezing garage all winter. Probably dipped below freezing 10-20 times over the winter.

I thought they'be destroyed by spring, but they were still felt like they had great grip. In fact, I felt like I got slower when I installed my new RE-71R due to the full depth tread squirm.

What actually happens to performance tires stored below freezing temps? I've never found any real information about it, other than guidelines to let frozen tires warm up before mounting or flexing them.

Link says out of stock for me

An article I read says they change on a molecular level. My friend drove in the snow. A few months later, he went to the track and they were chunking and boogering really bad. Super greasy. We blamed it on the cold ,since that was the only thing he did different.

kyoo Feb 14, 2019 06:13 PM

all sold out, within a few hours

Jacblack Feb 15, 2019 06:09 AM

Got damn it I would have grabbed a set for spares. I set up an alert just in case they come back in stock

This makes sense. Super cold summer tires are hard and brittle, so driving on them could damage the structure.

I'm just not convinced that the same damage applies to RE-71Rs stored in bags in my attic over the winter. I still bring the good set of tires into the basement just to be safe. My wife hates it, though.
