Switching subjects...
I have massive amounts of pad transfer on my rotors... The rotors look like the zinc coating hasn't really worn off yet, causing the pad material to just stick to them. I'm gonna hit them with some steelwool when I swap out my wheels next week but i won't be able to get to the inside disc. Any suggestions that don't involve taking the rotors back off? I will if I have too but I really don't feel like it... |

Not to mention the fact that they found a firearm in the Buick...

on another subject, i am thinking about dewinging. i kind of like the look especially once i figure out what aggressive wheel setup i want to go with.
ideally i would like to find a trunk lid off a wrecked white lancer. what is the best way to find that? just start calling junk yards or is there some insurance wholesale/auction part thing that i am not aware of? |

I thought about de-winging myself but I just can't get used to the wingless look on then VIII/IX. on the X I don't even notice the wing... its very tame.
Pete, do it right or do it twice. Its only 2 bolts to remove the caliper so you can pull the rotor. Just remember to put some RED loctite on the bolts when you reinstall. |

i think it looks clean on the X's when they're lowered with nice wheels.

Red locktite on what the caliper bolts? I have antiseize on them now...

you don't want anti-sieze on those bolts... clean them off with brake clean and put some red loctite on them. just a dab will do.
where you can use the anti-sieze, if you want, is a VERY little dab on the wheel studs. if you are constantly taking wheels off/on it will prevent your lugs from stripping and possibly braking a stud. keeping the threads clean is important too. another good place for anit-sieze is spark plugs, but hopefully you know that one already. |
forgot to mention, if you put anti-sieze on the studs you better be checking your torque values constantly.
|
What Marc said! I usually anti-seize everything, but the caliper bolts are one thing I dont use them on. I also don't use Loctite on them. Just leave them dry, and put them back in. I do use anti-seize on my wheel studs also, but very very little.
