Yea I'm pretty fond of the design you came up with. I'm actually using a similar design. I would probably jump on that list to get one but college budget = make your own. Luckily I've got access to machines for getting all the metal cut out and a few friends who are good welders.

I was talking with Mike from PA and we got to talking about it and the only way to really improve the wet sump options out there would involve running a hood exit or bumper dumper exhaust to allow for the sump to be moved to a more central location under the engine, allowing more drainback oil to get into the sump.

Just to be clear, I didn't design mine. All credit for that goes to Chad McCurdy. Don't want to steal his thunder...lol.

And yeah. Only problem with bumper exit is a lot of TA series want the exhaust to go behind the driver, except for wastegate dumps. Hell, SCCA requires ALL exhaust to exit behind driver and they don't allow wastegate dumps (for SOLO anyways).

^Lol completely agree. Im still on the fence about adding an accusump into the mix as well just bc its cheap insurance but its also added complexity and more point of failure. Either way as much as I want a drysump if there are folks like PA or the RS Motors group who don't have one then who am I to say I need one?

I can't lose another motor however so I guess I'll keep an eye on my oil pressure with the new pan when I eventually get it and go from there. I dont need the "ultimate" solution just need enough to get me by and protect my motor.

I've thought about an accusump a couple times but I'm not sure I want to deal with the extra weight and complexity although you'll still end up with most of that with a drysump anyway. For me it's not justifiable because I'm already planning on a drysump so paying extra money for a stepping stone isn't worth it.

I've got oil pressure and temp defi gauges which I can datalog through the controller so I'll be using that next season to see how things hold up.

Haha well props to him for a solid design.

Yea, I want to try and put the car in GTA's limited class this coming season (funds permitting) and limited requires exhaust to exit after the front axle so bumper exit is out of the question. I have an O2 dump but no one has ever given me grief about it yet, hope that holds true in the future lol.

LetsGetThisDone Dec 13, 2017 09:25 AM

most time attack series rules allow for wastegates to dump wherever.

None of them are currently used, but I'd like to know what I'm yanking out. Any help is appreciated, I have a feeling I'm about to become good friends with the wiring diagrams for this car haha

not sure if anyone responded - the first pic looks like the hvac control connectors.. could be wrong but they look very, very similar. the hvac control takes two connectors, the black one on bottom and the white one right above it. sorry if someone already answered that

Awesome thanks! I'll look those guys up in the FSM and see if they match. I'm sure most of these are HVAC and lighting stuff but just want to be sure and any help is appreciated.

sorry i meant the second pic - but yea.

Getting more little things out of the way. Made a new gauge panel for my dash today. Still undecided whether I want to make it gloss or matte black or get it anodized.

Got the throttle body cleaned out and the coolant barbs pulled out of it.

Also started popping off the rivets in the valve cover to sand blast it and powdercoat it.

Talked to a local powdercoat shop today about getting my wheels done (I don't have an oven large enough for wheels), should be done next week or the week after and my inner ricer is super pumped for how they're going to look.

Still chipping away at projects.

Got the battery tray widened to fit my small battery. It's an STM tray, made for a PC680 battery, I use a Enersys 16EP battery which is shorter and a tad wider. Threw the tray in the bridgeport at work and went to town (forgot to take photos, was too focused on getting it done in time), ended up widening the tray about 0.20" and now the battery fits perfect.

Just about done with the valve cover. Still need to buy a larger drill bit for the side vent hole, it's at 1/2" now since that's the largest bit I had, I need a 23/32", also need to buy 1/2 NPT tap. Once that's done I'll clean it again and powdercoat it.

Baffles removed, they were still dirty after 30 mins in the jet wash before I pulled them.

Sand blasted

https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...611a12b9ce.jpg

Shaved and washed again (the dark spots are from the wash chemical reacting with the mag)

https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...34dd05c2eb.jpg

Remaining rivet material ground flat. Seems that the rivets are made of mag as well

Holes drilled

https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...5d1d71571b.jpg

Holes tapped for M5 bolts. Ordered the bolts, forgot to order lock washers, doh. Plan is to use lock washers and blue loctite

Next week I'll finish porting the intake mani, get the EGT and O2 bungs welded on the O2 housing, and hopefully get the new oil pan mocked up and possibly welded.

About 5 pounds of wire out so far by rough estimation. Easily over 150 feet of wire. It's pretty much a never ending cycle of finding wires that aren't being used anymore, pulling them out back to their source and cutting. A bit over 10 hours in so far, time to pick up a depinning tool kit as lots of connectors are starting to turn into wire porcupines. I'd guess that I'm around 1/3 of the way done.

I also wasn't liking how my shifter cables were just zip tied together so I pulled the insulation sleeve off them and threw some Vibrant hose separators on them. I'm happy with it, here's a before and after:

Managed to get Dallas' last set of tophats and after seeing them all I can say is wow. I'm really into mods that improve driver connection/feel so I'm excited to get these guys on the car and see how it feels with more caster.

Looks good man. Lots of work in stripping wiring out.

Ayoustin Jan 2, 2018 11:28 AM

Thanks, I should have a good amount of free time next week so I'm hoping to get a good chunk of the wiring done then. The looming should be a pretty quick process but I want to get the car back together and make sure everything still works before wrapping it all up.

I also ordered spherical front LCA bushings from Hardrace since I'm getting offset rear bushings made by Dallas as well and don't want to fight to get the control arms back in since there's Whiteline bushings there now.

The reason for all this is because my 275/35/18 tire already rubs the back of the wheel well a bit and the tophats will pull the wheels even further back so I wanted offset bushings to get the wheel pulled back as far forward as I can get it. The pieces Whiteline sells are barely offset and Perrin no longer sells the PSRS so I opted to make my own. Dallas has been extremely helpful offering design insight, this is the final version (rev 3).

Got most of the pieces for the oil pan cut out today. As you can see I was extremely original with the shape. I've already chopped up the stock pan, I just need to clean it up, mock everything up to make sure the trap door placement is good and then it'll get welded up.

Reloomed the battery harness earlier today. Should be getting to more of the wiring in the engine bay tomorrow and thursday since it's supposed to be a scorching 55F outside.

Woven tape FTW

Finally got started in the bay yesterday. Got the engine harness mostly unwrapped. Wires for the EVAP, EGR and FPR solenoids are all getting yanked. Once that's all back together I might venture towards the fusebox and go through all the wires in the harness that goes across the front of the car.

I also got my wheels back! Unfortunately I can't get the color to turn out right with my phone. It's got a tad of a green hue that doesn't show in the photo. I'm absolutely happy with how they turned out.
