Yeah, when they sit outside they are subject to rust, so with all that money tied up and not using it you might as well sell before it starts deteriorating.

One chapter ends, another begins. When I finished my last car project, swore it would be the last. That only lasted a couple of years. Besides you need some interesting parts to build with that CNC machine. But it's going to be tough to find something as interesting as the Evo.

Regarding Chumpcar. I've found 99 people out of a hundred that say they want to race end up flaking out. I have a lot of friends in the auto industry that are all gung ho at first but then when it gets real they are nowhere to be found. All the people that did end up racing I found at the track. It's hard to find a team at first until you prove that the car will finish races, but after it's proven they come out of the woodwork, especially if it's fast.

Bring a truck, there's a lot that comes with a race car. A little photo to say goodbye to all this stuff.

2012 E92 M3 competition package, carbon roof, DCT transmission. I got rid of my practical Mazda 3 daily driver and now just have this. I already ordered a butt-load of basic maintenance parts (rod bearings and motor mounts for the S65 engine are disposable) and then some basic bolt-ons to get it ready to get back to doing track days. Just gonna keep it mellow so I can do the drive it to work and drive it to the track without a bunch of changes. In order to remind me of the Evo I got a GT wing and a front lip! Then I won't be confused with a dentist.

Yeah, we've all heard and said that before I don't know (the world may never know) what's proven to be harder/more work/more expensive/(reliability?): Two cars, DDing a track car, or trying to track your daily...

Car looks good!

I'm also looking forward to having an M car one day. I've driven a few M5's and 3's and the Germans know how to tune them.

The bearing thing is crap, but at least it is understood and you can plan around it. But I feel like the S65 V8 in this generation M3 is one of the greatest engines ever put in a production car. Light weight, individual throttle bodies with incredible response, revs to 8400 RPM, makes over 400 hp, has pretty good oil pick up stock. Did I mention it revs to over 8K.

After going too wild with the Evo and focusing on maximizing everything to chase fast laps Im approaching this differently. I just want to enjoy going to the track and having fun in a car that had character. My wife will only allow one car of mine in the driveway, because I've monopolized the garage with CNC stuff. I'm going to build a shop next to the house for working on cars, but that project will have a timeline of likely two years, based on my time and the county. So unless I just do nothing for two years I'm in that situation you bring up of daily a race car or track a daily. I drive like 90 miles a day, so I cant do the first one. It also turns out that these E9X M3s are so friggin nice I can't bring myself to rip into it. Having been through it with the Evo I know when I crossed the threshold of not a daily. It was too much power, to much aero stuff, and ripping out too many support systems including the usable back seats. Once the shop is built I'll either flip the switch on this car or likely build an E46 with an S65 engine.

So funny how many Evo guy grow into other platforms. I sold my evo years ago, got into bimmers and will never look back. The E92 will not disappoint.
