That's a positive way of looking at it! I have a habit of throwing parts at cars when they develop issues. My plan is to change the oil pump gear seal and if the drip remains, start putting a pan under the car lol.

So, I replaced the oil pump gear seal today. The old one looked fine to be honest. Upon closer inspection I saw that oil was leaking out of this bolt:

I don't recall the service manual ever mentioning that some of the 4G63 blocks have bolt holes tapped into oil galleys. I do remember reading it somewhere here though. I took the bolt out, cleaned it and the hole, applied thread sealant and reinstalled. Only time will tell if the leak is actually gone.

BTW....here is how I torqued the oil pump gear while the front cover was installed. I used an old timing belt and wrapped it like so, using a flat head screw driver to wedge it in place.

Yes, that bolt needs thread sealer on most 4g blocks.

Ok, that makes me feel a little better about my block Is it just that bolt or could there be others? I know that some exhaust manifold studs have interference with oil galleys.

It's 3 or 4 of the EM studs, and that bolt. I've also seen where some people have had the hydraulic tensioner bolts leak oil, not sure if it was actually those, or thenmotor mount bolt though.

I know for sure the FSM tells you to put thread sealer on that motor mount bolt. Not sure about the EM studs though.

In that case I have no excuse. I'll chalk that one up for neglecting to read the FSM notes. Makes me wonder how many people are running that bolt without thread sealant and don't know why their engine is leaking XD

Yup FSM calls for sealant or RTV on that bolt as well as the bolt for the balance shaft belt tensioner IIRC. Glad you found your leak.

I seem to be having the same leakage from that bolt. will inspect it soon.
@Pal, has it stop dripping?

The balance shaft belt tensioner too? I wonder if there was any way for Mitsubishi to prevent tapping into these oil locations. I'm glad it's fixed as well, now I need to clean my garage floor with some purple power!

Yup, As far as I can tell, the leak has stopped and I have not seen any more oil on the floor under the car. Hopefully it stays that way as I can't stand leaks

Yes, I think you hit it dead on.
According the manual, it has to be a sealant applied.

I believe it needs it only if you delete the tensioner. Could be wrong on that tho.

Today I also have removed this bolt, was totally covered and soaked in oil. Was nightmare to get to it but managed to do so with my friend.
Cleaned the threads and the bolt, sealed it and now lets see

Tell me about it. It's a PITA to deal with that bolt with the engine in the car. So far no leaks though!
