Bought an Evo 8, little rehab project.
So i purchased an ‘03 Evo 8. It needed quite a bit of love. I won’t call this a restoration, but more of a rehabilitation.
Inner CV boots were completely torn on the front axles. Has cosmetic issues like paint chips, mainly on the front bumper. Clear coat was peeling on the carbon fiber pieces on the car. Fuel door wouldn’t open. Steering wheel is chewed up and in bad shape. Headliner was falling down, and was stained badly. Appears like the car was demodded, but the dealer claimed it was “all original”. They got it at an auction. I picked it up for $10,9 out the door.
First order of business was to replace the timing belt which looked worn. That spiraled into getting the head cleaned and reseated etc... pictures to follow.

Removed the head and all the components
What the block looked like
Stripped and repainted the manifold wrinkle blue
Cleaning the Pistons
Newer steering wheel i got on eBay
Closer pic of the cams, they turned out not being stock. They are HKS cams. I got some GSC S1 cams on the cheap, ill be switching to these.
Pistons before i cleaned them

Got some evo 9 valves in to replace mine
Redoing the inner CV boots. They were torn and low on grease. I think this is was also caused my alternator to go bad, it was covered in grease. I wiped out the old grease.
Remove snap ring from CV bearing body
Bearings slid off
Wipe down the shaft
Slide new boot on with clamp in place
Replace bearing body onto shaft with new snap ring
Reassembled
Races on the head
Old valves, pretty dirty
Side of the head was super dirty

New coil cover on the painted valve cover
Fan shroud repainted, it was all rusty
Reassembled
Head back from the machine shop, with the evo 9 valves and new valve seals. Decked, hot tanked and cleaned.
Underside of the head
Motor all cleaned up
Evo pushed out of the garage to clean the engine

I've seen two Evos in blue and they both were tattered. There's maybe something about the color - dunno. Painted and waxed yours looks sweet. I wish that new steering wheel was mine. You obviously care about your car.
