As requested I made a separate thread for the dual voltage fuel pump controller. It even has a video explaining how it works.

Hey cool build thread. Regarding that Mocal cooler, I’ve seen a bunch of people claim that they’re worried about the excess restriction or “load” on the stock SST fluid pump system. These same people have referenced some of the external air to oil coolers that have external pumps “for this reason”. Have you found anything, or tested anything to “debunk” that claim?

Asking because I’m thinking about doing one of these myself rather than a Dodson unit or similar.

Also, have you gotten a chance to use a temp gauge (or any other reference) to get an idea of how much temperature is shaved off through the cooling loop?

Cheers,

Currently my "track" time has been limited to 1/4 mile. In preparing for getting back into road/race events I am going to add a third cooler in the loop. I did NOT measure the pressure on the outlet STOCK in order to compare it to the end state after mods. It is my understanding that the Mocal is a lower pressure drop than a similar sized normal cooler. The SST fluid is very very thin, and if you have ever drained the stuff even slightly warm it comes out like water. With that being said, I felt that the OEM FILTER for the SST was a bit restrictive and so I am running a massively large 15 micron unit that flows 32 GPM. The idea was to offset any restriction I may have introduced in the system with the additional coolers. Roadrace engineering has had good luck with TWO large coolers in line off of the OEM mechanical pump system. My hope/belief is that the Mocal pressure drop is offset by the huge external filter that is near zero restrictive.

On a side note: I had an external pump system in place to feed the coolers and it FAILED on me. It is adding a level of complexity that is also a risk when you put additional electrical-mechanical components in a system.

Decided to start on the SST cooler on the drivers side first. It is a 25 row Derale unit. I have always had good results with Derale.

Size comparison

Brackets either done or near done

Here are some pics of the JUN baffled oil pan:

25 row oil cooler done. Used alumalite for construction. I did end up bolting the front tip to the frame for strength.

not a hippy but added a REAL cat converter

So I have had a FUME issue for a LONG time. When you come to a stoplight after a few seconds (less than 10) you could smell exhaust fumes if the external vents were on the HVAC. I tried a 100 cell CAT from a known vendor and it did nothing. I then upgraded from the same vendor to a 200 cell CAT, and it still smelled so I went back to catless. Fast forward a few years and I have a baby seat mounted once again in the back seat of this 450whp beast. Enough was a enough. I decided to search for a CAT that could clean the exhaust up and not kill my power. The answer was a GESI G-Sport Catalytic converter. This thing is NOT cheap ($380 for just the CAT only), but it is HUGE and rated for 850hp. The biggest selling point and what stood out as a unit that would actually solve my problem: EPA CERTIFIED. Unlike the other units I tried that were unmarked, this puppy was the real deal. The diameter is 4.5 inches. I bought the 3" in/out version and had it welded into my straight pipe. Because I live in the NE and was tired of the CAT bolts rusting up I replaced them with Grade 5 TITANIUM hardware. That should fix that. I used copper anti-seize as well.

The FUME SMELL IS GONE. I can run the vents on whatever I want whenever I want. Perhaps the baby won't fail kindergarten after all! The fuel trims didn't move, and I don't yet have dyno numbers since I am on snow tires and 93 octane for the winter. I will run it through the virtual dynojet in the spring. If this thing performs like it says (850hp rated), then it was something I wish I did much earlier. It also has a 50,000 mile warranty.

GESI G-sport Cat rated at 850hp
