how bad are those front fenders? I'm debating a pair and was going to just wrap them. Track car so not really concerned with pristine paint just need them to work.

For the price they’re not terrible. Especially if it’s for a track car. But they’re not something you buy and bolt on immediately. There’s trimming that needs to be done and mount holes to be drilled. They’re brittle. I think a hard impact from a cone or large rock will crack them. Lead time for these for me were 12-13 weeks so keep that in mind if you think you’ll need replacements.

Hey guys.

Sorry it’s been slow going the past month but here’s a small update.

I was able to get another side skirt from Varis and they shipped it to me right away. It’s mocked up now and the fitment is great. The mounting is straight forward even though the instructions are in Japanese.

I got one front fender mostly mounted but as I said before it’s going to take a lot of work. I’m not going to say they’re total crap but pretty close lol. The actual part you see as the body is decent but the mounting is terrible. All mounting holes needed to be added and the mounting flanges need a lot of grinding and sanding to fit correctly. Not sure how the hood and headlights are going to fit but that will be the next challenge.

Hey guys, sorry I’ve been mia for a while. I had some house projects I wanted to do during the summer so the evo project got sided. I’ve been back at it again finally so here are some updates.
The passenger side sheet metal is fully welded and all parts fitted. It’s ready for body work once the driver side is complete.

Just recently started on the driver side rear door. I should have it fully tacked up soon and starting on the quarter panel.

Thanks! Maybe the pictures make it look better than it is. It’s only a 20x20 empty. With the half built paint booth it’s a real tight squeeze while working in there.

Driver read door is complete. Just need to fully weld it. Rear quarter is almost done too. Just a couple more pieces to fabricate before major surgery on the original quarter panel.

Unfortunately not. I wish I had a TIG. All weld were from a Lincoln Power MIG 180c.

I just bought an everlast 255ext- ac/dc, (90% of what i fabricate with is aluminum). I have an eastwood 200 ac/dc that I learned on. When I get good enough, I want to build a mailbox for the hood of my ix just like the subaru has. I was going to enclose the intake and put it over top for true cold air. I am not comfortable welding aluminum sheet metal yet but anything 1/8" thick and sometimes 1/16" is fine.

Your project looks awesome keep it up.

Been making more progress since I’m stuck at home...

The large piece for the quarter panel is complete. The panels are all fitted together and temporary tacked to the car. As you’ve seen in earlier posts that the new sheet metal will be removed to cut away the original quarter panel before fully welding the new panels to the car. Before I remove anything, I will need to fabricate a fuel door. I’m planning on modifying the OEM one but haven’t quite figured it out yet.

Something I’ve notice is that the driver side panels are coming out much straighter. I don’t know if it’s luck or the tiny bit of experience I’ve gained.

Stay safe and healthy
