rrstlevo's dd project...

From the beginning to where I am now -

Day 1 10/2011:

http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/...psydxtrs28.jpg

With 110k on it - and SRS light and SES light...

http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/...psdotlh1cg.jpg

So a LF impact sensor...

http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/...psu8qiacfh.jpg

SES was on because there was no cat and no tune to turn the light off.

The first part I bought for the car was the Gruppe S 52mm. The guages were just sitting in the cubby hole...

http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/...psqs8m8zmh.jpg
http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/...psay48dzos.jpg

And yes I covered the long dash trim piece in 3M carbon fiber wrap.

http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/...psazbsfai0.jpg
http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/...pszorqm8cb.jpg

As well as the fading sides of the wing

http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/...psuihpnquo.jpg
http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/...psni9xjpyh.jpg

O my jeez
http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/...pskdfgiwuo.jpg
http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/...pso9zwu6gr.jpg

better.....

http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/...psljpq3pyq.jpg
http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/...psix17yw0m.jpg

First order from STM for the Evo...
http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/...psskgqmcct.jpg

Sick of this thing coming up everytime I got on the highway
http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/...pshe1fqanv.jpg
http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/...psdts0dsk2.jpg

Couldn't stand this heavy, faded, ugly C-West bumper
http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/...pscugu5q8u.jpg

Bought some cheapish fiberglass IX style bumper
http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/...psgqti5wzk.jpg

Well that's hideous - and body shop wants too much to fix & pain this shotty bumper.
http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/...psyalbzqbt.jpg

Better way to go with the bumper...OEM
http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/...psfzptkqpd.jpg

Ehh - have to fix those some day

http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/...ps79z9dur4.jpg

PlastiDip is the new thing to do...at least two years ago it was...
http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3mbnjp2h.jpg
http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/...psscqfaauq.jpg
http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/...pssfornult.jpg
http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/...psnhm0ajwt.jpg

You can see above the wheel, on the fender, where the aluminum actually started to rip. the C-West bumper was held on with one bolt on each side and was so heavy that it tore the fender. Nothin too terrible but WE car guys notice it. :crap:

And if you didn't notice I pulled the headlights apart and PlastiDipped the inside of them black...hate that USDM chrome.
http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/...o/98b90928.jpg

Decent...but I don't know the last time they were replaced.
http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/...psmk6bgh4w.jpg

These are ugly too...

http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/...2E67CF476C.jpg
http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/...2E799915CF.jpg

This timing belt had some miles... replaced that, the water pump, pulleys and hydraulic tensioner.

Driving down the highway, cruising, a major misfire began...the Evo started to sound like a Subaru {thumbdwn}.

Maybe just a spark plug or a coil or an injector. Swapped plugs misfire didn't move...swapped coils...nope...tested injector nope.... when starting I can hear low compression.... F

This is how I found it...

http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/...pslkzzagfe.jpg

#3 retainer shattered. Dropped an exhaust valve which got bent and stuck in the head

Looking forward to the tranny being buit too. 4th & 5th syncro's were very worn. They have the transfer case as well - no issues with it but it does have 145k on it and its out already.

Need it to be the right temps around here so we can paint it...maybe in a month or so... I bought the paint from dipyourcar.com they gave me like $30-35 worth of points for in store credit... so I bought some prep spray and sealer with those points.

rrstlevo Jan 25, 2014 05:23 AM

Someone PM'd me about which axle I used. Oreilly Auto Parts MasterPro Select CV with a lifetime warranty. Same length, same splines, boots are high quality. Been running hard on it with no problems. I still have the OEM one that has a busted boot and exploded internals just in case. There is a local axle shop that will rebuild it but they wanted $100. Oreilly was $80. OEM list is $650...

Evo_AK Jan 25, 2014 05:55 AM
