Fast_Freddie's new heap... daily project
4 Attachment(s)
Picked up a new to me 2003 Evo 8 last week for a song (cheap)... needs some work, but i think I have the knowledge to get it accomplished on the cheap {thumbup} ...here are some pics and details, I will update as I go...
**UPDATED PICS ON PAGE 3*** So far I have ordered the following new A-Pillars (to replace the triple pillar pod that was in disrepair) XXR 527 17x8.75 +25 wrapped in 255-45-17 Falken FK452 Autometer triple gauge pod to replace the stock cubby new OEM bumper attaching hardware used OEM Struts new OEM shift boot and retaining ring Depo JDM Tails OEM hood popper latch Used OEM Floor Mats New MAF adapter for the Amsoil filter I already had Poly Do-Luck lip Torque Solutions EGR Delete Car came with ETS Intercooler and Piping, HKS BOV, Hallman MBC, Buschur Ported/Coated exhaust manifold, works short shifter and knob, Mishimoto Radiator, some curbed and clapped out MB Motoring 18" wheels (hence the wheel purchase). The car has a few mechanical issues, need to get it on a lift and fix the exhaust hangar situation, and the SRS light is on. We have an SRS scan tool at work so hopefully that will work with the evo, the driver seat was unplugged, but still getting the light. The wiring was a nightmare, it had some sweet neons rigged under the dash and seats, ripped those out this weekend. Also ripped out the HKS turbo timer to find a rats nest of wires piggybacked off of the ECU harness including and HKS idle stabilizer... had to cut and splice about 15 ecu wires in the snow yesterday. As for the body, it needs paint badly, need to get the bumper off and access how badly it was repaired. Other than that it is a solid driver... still waiting on the title as the car had a lien, once that is good I can get it moving... https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/at...-evo-front.jpg https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/at...t-evo-roof.jpg https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/at...-rear-shot.jpg https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/at...-side-shot.jpg |

New wheels installed, and new struts installed. Took off the front bumper today in preparation for mounting the front lip, and also to align and refinish the headlights.

Engine bay all cleaned up... Doesn't look like it, but I worked on the car for a solid 10 hours on Sunday. EGR delete, removed misc hardware and brackets, cleaned the engine bay with some Purple Power and wiped down all the hoses, cleaned up the intake piping as it was littered with oil, changed coolant, changed oil, and massaged the radiator so it is straight now, hooked up the wideband O2 sensor and oil pressure sensor, and did a wire reroute so it is a little more out of the way, and looks cleaner. Still have to fabricate a mini batter try, and I am going to attempt to fab up an exhaust heat shield...

A little update for this weekend...
SRS light would not clear, ordered a clock spring... yeah Changed tranny fluid with Amsoil MTG 75-90 Procured a stock heat shield and hood weather stripping and installed those Installed headlights and fixed parking lights... now the parking lights stay on whenever the key is in the acc/on position... Mounted the front bumper and installed front lip Installed Binary seat lowering brackets Still waiting on a tie rod end, brake pads and hood release cable as well... Did all this in conjunction with helping my brother add on to the garage, we are building an enclosure for the huge air compressor we are putting in, and routing 220 for the compressor and welder... |
Update for today...
Installed some Hella yellow fogs, because the botch job that was the fog lights drove me crazy... it was an just the bulb with spade connectors attached directly to the light contacts... that is a no-go in my book, so purchased some bulb mating sockets and soldered those into the stock harness, viola now it is the way it is supposed to be... I thought about putting an HID kit into the fog position, but I thought that would be a bit overkill... My brother refinished the headlights for me last week, and they came out awesome... he does it a bit different than most... he sands down the lense, then sprays quality DuPont clear coat over them... we were actually both surprised how good they came out because of the way they look previously, and they look to be evo IX headlights as well LOL... Clock spring came in, installed it immediately before I had to go to work and no more SRS light! Got the rest of my parts in today (brake pads, hood release cable & tie rod end). Won't have time to install those this weekend, I will be going out of town, perhaps I will have time on Monday... if not, it will have to wait until next weekend... Also have to fix an exhaust hangar, and replace the 2 bolt gaskets, I may or may not have to relocate the AEM UEGO O2 sensor as well... I will see once I fix the exhaust hangar... I also found out I have the dreaded electrical gremlin issue... more than likely why my parking lights are turning on once the key hit the ACC position... it even does it with the front ecu removed from the car which was super baffling to me LOL... anyway that will only take me about 2 hours to complete, since I have a robust background in soldering and wiring... |
Update for this past weekend, well Wednesday Night/Thursday Morning, as I worked most of the night after I got off work at midnight until 5am...
Installed new Project Mu type NS front brake pads. Installed the new hood release cable, and viola it works as intended. While I had the inner fender liner apart, I went ahead and taped the wire bundle that goes into the cabin to prevent water intrusion... hopefully that helps with the electrical gremlins. Installed new outer tie rod end on the drivers side. After all was complete, I thought I would be able to get away with a VA vehicle inspection at this point... I was wrong... I failed the visual for no cat, and for a damn wheel bearing on the front passenger side... After I failed inspection I went ahead and took it to get an alignment, and boy was it out bad... probably should have waited as I have to replace a wheel bearing/hub so it is gonna be out again... I have a CAT at the house so no biggie. I ordered a new wheel hub on Thursday and got it in on Friday, but had no time to install it this past weekend as I went out of town. I also had to order a new rubber exhaust hangar, the triangle one at the rear, of course that was a dealer only part, thankfully, there was one at a dealership in Charlottesville, VA which happened to be on the way to where I went out of town (Hot Springs, VA) Hopefully I can get this finished up this weekend and get an inspection completed next week before work on Monday morning... |
