Squatch's 06 MR RallyX car
To be honest, I have NO idea how committed I'm going to be with this. But I thought if I made a thread, it would at least give me some motivation to be serious about it and put some time and money into it.
I've purchased the car sight unseen, so I'm sure a lot of the initial updates will be me fixing crap that annoys me. In fact, I'm kind of freaking out... I've only ever bought cars out-of-state by flying there and seeing first. Not the case here... it will hopefully be dropped in my driveway by Christmas Eve. :santa: The car has 203K on the clock, with about 8500 on a mostly OEM motor rebuild. It has a few bolt-ons from my understanding (AEM intake, cutback exhaust, coilovers) I have a lot of work to do before the local RallyX event in mid-January. Here's one photo to hold you over until it's delivered. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...5deedf9bde.jpg |
Well, the first part of this thread could be you just documenting the delivery & updating it as you correct those items that need attention
The guys like lots of pics{thumbup} |
Looking good!

Hopefully it came from a fair weather state. In which case how bad can it be. Most stuff can be fixed besides rust.
Good luck and congrats! |
Car was dropped off tonight in the frigid cold. I got a number of parts deliveries last week and will update as I knock those out. But here she is arriving in Minnesota.

Started some work last night. Engine bay had parts plastidipped metallic purple so that was the first to go. New strut bar swapped out, cleaned UICP, and did some interior touch-up.
Today I started on the coilover removal to install Bilsteins and OE MR springs. The mud flaps will go on this week along with snow tires. More pics to come soon. |
Here are some photos of the progress...
Removed the painted strut bar, which was apparently painted while in the engine bay. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...ea92189de6.jpg Got that swapped out and cleaned off the UICP. Keeping engine pretty much stock, so no need for fancy piping and battery trays... https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...f1d4642e6d.jpg Now onto the suspension and mudflaps... https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...6e935c6e82.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...e2973a149d.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...b4e9bb49c0.jpg Much better. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...a8bf6dcd24.jpg Later this week: Snow tires. Alignment. Boost Controller. Gauges. Recirculated BOV. Tint removal. Tune. |
Purple? Oh, lawd...
|
Look at the...
Congrats , and the very best of luck with the car, and rallying! Just a small detail: On your OEM strut bar! That rubber piece that you see to the left, belongs on the other side, on the driver's side! It's to protect the battery area from contact with the battery...Cheers! :mitsu:

Awesome catch, thank you!!

Yesterday we got the snow tires mounted/balanced:
https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...5d09885abc.png Alignment was completed today. Going from cheap coilovers to new suspension/tires/alignment and it's like a completely different car. May not be "go fast mods" but still among some of the most rewarding as far as I'm concerned. |
Looking good!
