Moose’s Evo 8 Rebuild

Hey everyone, my name is Adam and I live In Maryland. I’ve been a member in here for a little while now and I’ve always found this site to be very useful and informative. I’ve owned my 2005 Evo 8 for 3 years and I’ve loved every day of it.
I daily drove my car every day for those 3 years and really had no issues, somewhere in my quest for “ more” something went wrong and this is my journey. Here she is and I’ll update on here frequently as I can. Thanks for looking...

Car looks to be very clean . What happened for the rebuild to take place?

Thanks , A combination of parts and too hot of engine temps I believe to be the culprit. Stripped cylinder stud hole to manifold failed, the threads pulled right out by hand one day.
So I fixed that stud with a time sert but when I went to put it all back together a lower stud hole stripped and that one goes straight thru to the oil so no way I could fix that with the head still on. So one thing sorta led to another an here we are.
I’ve been working on the car for months now and I’m so late starting all this.

This is where I am now lol got a rounded flywheel bolt out that was a real pita to get out. The engine bay stuff is about complete now I have to Just prep block to send to Curt brown here soon for either a 2.0 built shortblock or just an Oem rebuild with arp hardware etc. not sure if I want to go down that path but I have time to figure it out.

These are just some of the reasons I decided to rebuild everything, everything had crust and rust and grime over it and I just couldn’t leave it alone. I’ll try to bring everyone up to speed from the start and I have tons of pics.

Success!! Got the pita flywheel bolt out.. Ran out of drill bits so I used my dremel and cut into the sides and used a flat head screwdriver and a hammer, it came right out.

Looking clean. The little things go a long way.

Thanks, I’m going to be at a stand still here for a little until weather gets warmer and I make a decision on what I’m doing with the shortblock

Whiteline RSB Mount kit came in and I had to put it on with my 24mm Whiteline RSB. Still need to clean up the grease mess and the only problem I had was my rear end ljnks, they were rusted and seized up bad to the point they wouldn’t move at all. So I’ll be getting a new set from Whiteline here soon.
I left it loose until I finish everything up...
