Tow hooks for track/street use
New Price!
I made a few extra of these when I was making one for myself.
Basically the stock front tow hook is buried under the under tray, and even if you don't have an under tray, it is so close to the front bumper that if you had to be towed, you may end up with a damaged lip or bumper.
The removable street/track tow eye.
Its made of 1/4" stainless and eliminates the potential for a ruined front bumper/lip. The removable bracket was tested to 8000 pounds before the test bolt broke, not the bracket. Pretty stout.
It bolts to the bumper support through two holes that already exist in the stock support. All you have to do is drill through the bottom part (the support is two layered, the top has holes already, just use them as pilot holes to drill through the bottom layer with a 3/8" drill bit. You will have to clearance away a small portion of bumper mesh for the extrusion. Pick up some nuts, bolts and washers from your local Home Depot or Lowe's and bolt it in! (I recommend using the highest grade available with nylock nuts)
Here are some pics:

Not really for pro racing, ie, Speed World Challenge, Grand Am, etc. More for hobbyists.
Strap works too. I have seen them brake as well. It was old, and probably should've been replaced, but that SWC Touring SRT flew off the back of the tow truck like dukes of hazzard.
Not upward force, you would be limited by the front bumper crash support. It would bend and/or give before the hook did though.

However, if you come up with a way to secure it vertically, you're great.
I opted for a strap due to the provision of "tow hooks must not dangerously protrude from the body". And any of the hooks seemed to.

do what? if you place that 1/4 steel strap sideways, it'll bend much faster than that front bumper bar.

I agree about the strap, although I was talking to a SCCA Pro racing official and he said that is typically overlooked. Anyway, like i said, more for the hobbyist.

In case anyone was wondering if attaching this to the bumper support is a good idea, I recently saw a GrandAm mustang (weighs about the same as our cars) and it is attached in about the same place on the bumper beam.
I know its not apples to apples, but i also used it to load my car onto a trailer, and they have also been used to tow a disabled car off track and have worked just fine.
Anyway, i have a few of these left. Lmk.
