The new wastegate has a much smaller head than the old One. Smaller means less thermal mass so damage can happen easier but with cooling it can equal or surpass the larger wastegate. That's the point.

They should all be squishy. I bent valves on my engine turning the cam to TDC from lifters holding valves open and valve to valve contact. Pistons were all in the middle of the stroke.

Call PTE and tell them you removed the restrictor and ask them what the results of that are. I guarantee a failed turbo if you keep driving with it.
