I'm purchasing an 03 evo with about 40k miles from a performance shop down FL. Automodz if anyone has heard of them, and has any insight. But anyways, what are some things i should look at or prepare ahead of time when purchasing the vehicle. Performance wise, no mods.

40K miles on an 2003

Do you have access to the maintenance records on the car?

You could send it to that performance shop you noted, if they are familiar w/EVOs, & have them perform a pre-buy inspection

Either way, I would put this on the lift & have the undercarriage inspected (bushings, suspension & rear diff, wheel bearings, check for leaks at the prop shaft seal to front diff etc)

Have the compression checked across all 4 cylinders

You noted no Mods, but you need to find out if the clutch has been replaced

Some of the basics are noted here:

Yes they claim no mods. I'm stationed in nc so I havnt seen it in person yet. I'll be on leave next week and thats when i'll be checking it out. They sent me pictures and the engine was pulled. They told me they rebuild the short block with all new oem parts before selling the vehicle. I had them show proof in the paper work of it. Yet they dont offer warranty. I've checked their facebook, overall really good reviews. They specialize in 4g63's.
I pulled a carfax on it. So to that extent i do have service records.

Well, there is more going on than a stock 40K mile EVO. I would get into the details if you could. Carfax wont give you much

Why would a 40K mile EVO require a rebuild. Buyer beware & do your homework on this one

Ya I would want a full peak down and compression test done I mean it's not horrible that it was built gives you a good platform to go bigger turbo it's not like these motors take rocket science like a Subaru boxer engine to figure out

No, no. Just the engine internals. From my understanding they pull the engine before they buy and sell the car. They're putting it back to oem internals. You can ask them what kind of mods you want they'll do the work and sell you the car type of deal.
If you look at their facebook page "automodz" they have a good reputation. The shop it full of evo's, eclipses, and srt-4's to me it seems like they know their 4g63. I'll definitely try to get a compression test done.

Do yourself a favor and stay clear away from anything affiliated with Automodz. They do not have a good reputation. I am local to them and that place is going under! Find another car from a different shop and/or individual.

It is said from multiple sources that he recently got a DUI in a customer's vehicle. Stay clear away.

That is not necessarily a bad thing. I would take a properly build motor over a stock 4g63 everyday and twice on Sunday.

Do you have any personal experience with them?
Do you know if their actual work is garbage?

My only concern about the built motor is i would know how crappy the work, if they took any shortcuts or if they put in cheap parts. I rather have a stock 4g63 and do everything myself.
