Yea, they're in the realm of $300-350 + shipping from Finland though. It'd definitely be cheaper for me to get it made in the states, even if it ended up being a one off.

if someone gave you the material for free you couldn't get it machined on the open market for $350.
heck - id venture to guess you'll have $100-200 just in CAD time getting the cut paths on the part.
^^ I know I wouldn't even touch that for a one off part for under a grand. And that's to get started. I'm charging $100/hr to work on other projects and this would be a few hours of figuring out how to make and hold it (assuming I had a 5 axis and knew how to use the thing).
Some of those things that already exist are dirt cheap for the effort it would actually take to make one.
The original plan was to work on it with a manufacturing student to do as a capstone project. Either him or I would do the toolpathing and our school has a 5 axis mill that can make it. So it's definitely not a normal situation for me. I just don't have the time right now for this to be at the top of my list.

Dallas did you ever begin to offer those top hats with caster built in? I think I'd prefer that over the "adjustable" ciro ones I've got. Seems more ridgid and less prone to failing.

Yeah, I have 4 sets available but may not make anymore outside of special requests. They certainly take more work than $110 shipped makes me compared to some other jobs. Mostly these are now just because I think theyre cool
Finally got my box finished for my Defi gauge controller. It used to be zip tied up to my dash bar on the passenger side and was pretty much unusable; now it's within reach of the driver while strapped in.
Can of one of you guys print some of these for us from plastic or alum (or steel if it's cheaper)? This is the "new" way their measuring section width of a tire, in this case 275's. The legs need to be 30mm tall from the surface. So this slides over the tire, inflated, mounted on whatever rim the driver chooses and the surface sits "flat" while the legs go down 30mm along the sidewall. Basically if it can't sit flat, then you've gone past the appropriate size and get DQ'd. They also have them for 226 and 257mm. https://nasa-assets.s3.amazonaws.com...plate_2017.pdf
Thats possibly doable but only diagonally on my 3D printer (lulzbot taz5). Only issue would be its aspect ratio being long and slim. Those things typically want to pull up the ends from shrinkage.

Right, so it'd need to be a bit stiffer if we want it to last.
