The End: Sold the IX RS. Accomplished my goals and loved every second.
LoL, yes GT4 in our terms refers to the Porsche Cayman both road going (bairly) and the Club Sport which is the turn key track ready version everyone and their mother seems to be getting in on. They don't have the official GT3/GT4 series here yet but only homolog'd versions of the EU/AU specs in a handful (~8 or 9) events a year in both TCR and GT4 spec races. TCR caught on big time so it should only be a matter OF time before it makes its way into official IMSA title events. I'm a bit sad that they split so many damn Prototype cars up and only 1 or 2 actual "car" categories. Like LMP1, LMP2, LMP3 and GT or something. Who the F cares about LMP2 or 3 lol.
I suspected you guys were talking about road car caymans rather than the GT4 track spec one. And people seem to be finding it a good upgrade from an evo? interesting! Ive heard you can slot a 3.8L 997 cup car motor in the back of them too...
OP: Hey guys. Just checking in. Caught a IM asking for updates last year. Better late than never. Absolutely live all the great feedback this thread generated.
718 GT4 update. Dream car for me. The Porsche market benefited better than most so I took a $30,000 profit after completing my goals with the car. My exhaust was a game changer. Put me in exotic level soundtrack every time I drove. My COTA experience was my only track day in the GT4. Freaking amazing and beyond the limits of my EVO in full race trim. And I was on OEM Pilot Sport Cup 2’s verse Hoosier R7’s. Braking…….YES! Best stopping power I ever had. Thank you PCCB’s (ceramics). I was doing 107mph around the carousel (tower) in a stock car. The Porsche electronics make any driver look good. It makes great drivers look like driving gods. I couldn’t believe it. And I didn’t feel it working, but I knew it was. The GT4 is really a track car at the track. If shines so bright. Never seen a car be so competent on track. On the street, aggressive driving and back road fun, it’s awesome too……but not as awesome as it is on track. This is hard to put in words. Buy you get it. It’s rare in my experience to have a car on track that’s perfect. Before the GT4, I always had to manage something….pad knock….temps….hoses….catch can overflow…..etc. The GT4 kicked *** and gave me confidence. I was doing the impossible pretty quickly. Then, there are the girls and valet privileges. Street cred was amazing. Way different than rolling up in my million dollar EVO. LOL! I did tail of the dragon this year with a Porsches GT only group. After COTA & Dragon…..I took the profits and the experience and deposited the money. On the flip side, I was watching my mileage, and the value market every day. I was at the top of my affordability with a lien. Took out insurance at track days. Learned it took another $20k to make track ready (belts, harness bar, control arms for more -camber, wheels). The PCCBs are so large, the few companies who offer 20” rims don’t recommend because the inner barrel will get scored and maybe scrape the caliper. When I couldn’t get extra set of wheels for less than $10,000(B4 tires), I started counting the days. And yes, my ceramics (PCCB’s) were amazing, but I didn’t want to replace at $20,000.
My money from sale lasted nearly 5 minutes before I grabbed a gorgeous C8 in the spec I wanted for the great deal of only $10,000 over MSRP. Love the C8 Z51 as it has more torque and power than the GT4. Makes it do everything great on the street. And people take photos and like it’s an exotic. Whole families get out and take pics. Maybe it’s an American thing? I’m all for it. Had the C8 a couple months. Mods including full race system are ready to be installed. Delays are driving me crazy. And tonight, I just posted it for sale at$103,000.
Who knows, Maybe I will keep C8. But right now, I’m wanting to build another street/track monster…..mostly street. So here I am. The ZL1 1LE with mods and the RS3 with mods are appealing. Maybe there is a crazy guy on here like me who has a nice million dollar EVO? Great to see this forum and guys like you active. I will post some pics and vid’s next post.

I looked into an RS3 or TTRS a while ago. They're very fast in a straight line but they're not really as suitable for tracking as I hoped. Of the two, I'd lean strongly toward the 1LE if tracking is a goal.
I bought a MK5 Supra and surprisingly don't miss my 18 years of owning Evos at all.
I would say consider one but slightly modded they are just as fast as a GT4 on track for almost half the price, albeit a different driving experience.
The street boyz seem to terrorize the streets with them though. Turbo upgrade, downpipe + Ethanol = 600whp+ easy

The Supra seems to be a great chassis and the auto used doesnt suck. But with manual now its even more enticing for some. Would love to get one here for development but this whole economy thing is looking like its better to hold onto some cash for a bit.
I feel your pain. After about 9yrs of ownership, mine is also for sale. I've done everything I can in it, without dropping another $10k+. So, time to let it go, as opposed to little sitting in my back yard, collecting dust.
I've been keeping an eye on the availability of resources for these things l, over the past year, and I think it's a good time to move on.
*Edit. I just realized I'm replying to an old *** post

I've been telling my wife that the silver lining of a recession is that fun cars get a lot cheaper. While it's painful to see the paper losses in the retirement savings, it wouldn't be so bad to see car prices dip. Remember when you used to be able to get a used GT4 for $80k or a low mileage 997S for under $60K. I bought a brand new 2008 Evo X in 2009, which languished on the Mitsu lot in the 2008 recession. Sticker was $35k. I paid $27,900.
Happy to sell my evo and ship it to you if your wanting something really high end. toying with listing it up again as i want to buy something thats pure race car e.g a GT4. Be looking at about 70,000 USD + shipping costs.
As mentioned in the update post. Something like the porsche you can go to the circuit and drive and not worry about or manage any shortcomings. After years of the evo and how much TLC it requires to keep on the track i am leaning more and more to purchasing something factory built which you can go to the track and race all day and just do basic servicing on and not have that anxiety in your head about something failing. You end up with a hyper sensitivity to every crack and bang and bump which takes away from the experience. maybe im getting old haha

Fast cars ain't cheap and cheap cars ain't fast. Cheap cars can be fun though
For anything under $80k I'd hands down grab a ZL1 1LE Camaro. The out of the box capability for the price is unmatched. Coolers for everything in the driveline, factory suspension has adjustable camber tophats and threaded spring perches to adjust ride height, weight is only 3800lbs, and the engine makes plenty of power and torque without needing any mods. Basically just drive it and go broke throwing brakes and tires at it.
For anything under $60k it'd be a toss up between a new Mach 1 Mustang and a Supra. Mustang if I was going to keep it, Supra if it's only sticking around for a few years.
Alas, I'm broke so I'm sticking with my evo
