question for tranny experts
how is it possible for tranny fluid to leak into the transfer case? i changed the fluid in the tranny, t-case and rear diff about 2k miles ago. 2 weeks ago, i was driving when i heard the whine noise. i got home and saw fluid dripping down from the t-case. i thought it was the drive shaft seal at the time but i don't think it's the case now. there were plenty of fluid coming out off the t-case when i drained it (about 1.5 qt.) and it was pretty thin (there were also some metallic in the oil). i checked the tranny fluid and it was low, i had to add a whole quart (used 3 quarts when i changed it). my conclusion was that some how tranny fluid got into the t-case and made it overflow and causing the ring and pinion in the t-case to go bad.
i'm not familiar with evo tranny but i would guess that the oil would have to go pass the tranny seal and then the t-case seal. it's odd that two seal would go bad at the same time, unless there's only one seal that separates the tranny fluid from the t-case fluid. i'll be pulling the t-case and sending it to TRE or Shepherd soon. i just don't know if there's anything wrong with the tranny and should i send it off also. i would rather have a local shop do the tranny though. does anyone know if TurboTrix do tranny service?
thanks in advance.

i need to know why my transfer case would be leking email at wackevo8@yahoo.com on msg me on myspace at http://www.myspace.com/gt35rturbolagis4play plz if anyone can help me oh its has 8700 miles on it
A common reason for the leak that started this thread is when people try to reuse the old O-ring that fits between the transmission and the transfer case.

That’s the answer I was looking for. I think that’s what happened in my case. I initially thought that the rear drive shaft seal was bad and that’s where the leak came from, but when I drained the t-case, I was surprise to see how much fluid came out. And the tranny fluid was about a quart low. That’s why I think the tranny fluid leaked into the t-case and caused it to overflow and ruin the ring and pinion (maybe even the front diff).
