Coilovers makin noises HELPP

ok i just got brand new Megan Tracks put on by AMS (atlantic).\

If im at a dead stop and turn my wheel back and forth it makes a creaking sound in the front almost like the springs are stretching or something. I was told its normal its the pillow ball joints or something like that. but this noise is loud as hell. it also does it at low speeds when turning. They dont make any sound when driving normal only on slow right angle turns. Also have not gotten an allignment done yet. Any ideas??

It's not normal. Take it back to AMS and have them look over the install. Something either isn't right with the install or isn't right with the coilovers.

Mine does the same thing on my SE but when I had them on my old Evo IX it didnt do that at all. It is the rubber boot on the struts that get twisted and I have not a clue why they do that. Adam can you help me out.

Try checking the basics:
check the top bolts, to see if they are on tight. (not too tight)
Depending on what type of noise...clunking...popping...
check to see if the springs are set in place correctly on the spring perches or collars.
Like someone mentioned before...take it back and ask them to check for any errors.
Could be something very minor...
worst case - manufacturer's defect.

Wish I knew bro. I'll do some more research tonight and if I find out anything I'll chime in later and let you know.

The noise is actually from the front springs binding on the preload perches. The reason why you only get the sound at low speeds, or when the car is stopped, is because the brakes load the suspension more than when the car is rolling with no brakes. This loading stresses the front springs more and if the front preload is too high, the springs will bind.

To prove this to yourself, have a friend put their foot on the brakes with the car running, and tell them to turn the steering wheel from lock to lock. Get close to one of the front wheel wells and watch the spring. You will hear the sound, and if you probably see the spring binding.

Solution:

1) Let the springs settle, then, when you go to get an alignment and corner balance make sure that the perches are not too tight on the front two coilovers. Also, make sure that the perches are fully secure!

2) Putting some white lithium grease between the spring ends and the perches (on the front coilovers) helps but probably won't get rid of the sound completely. It is also convenient to do this when you are adjusting the spring preload or the ride height (i.e. wheels are off).

Good luck! ... I think this might be a problem for Megan to address in future iterations of the track coilovers

You can look for thrust bearings for the springs. They'll look like this:

Just make sure you get ones that are the right size. Why these aren't included on every coilover, I don't know.
